Is it worth picking up a F-series walkman if I already have a X1060?

I am using these with the EX1000 and MDR-1RNC.

I have both, and usually use them with Sony 7550 IEMs.

I think the biggest improvement the F series has over X is the almost non existent background hiss and the ability to play FLAC files. And obviously it has Android system, so if multimedia is important to you then the F series is no brainer.

Other than that, the X has a thicker, slightly more organic sound to my ears, but smaller soundstage. I find it sounds nicer with vocals, especially jazz.
F is more flat but sounds awesome with string instruments.

To me, the sound signature difference is more than actual sound quality improvements.

Is the F807 White supposed to be plastic? It definitely isn't metal. Has a glossy sparkling back rather than a black, matte back.

Also, probably nitpicking, but it seems to have come used. 47.7GB/55.8GB left w/ pre-loaded music files and such. Pre-loaded movies too. Not sure if it comes out of the factory that way, though wouldn't seem like it. No setup either.

Ordered through alexlow.

I have the white version. Metal through and through. There's a small section which is plastic and obviously covers the wireless antennas.

Great! Now I just have to decide on a colour and size :)

Since it's an Android operating system, is it possible to stream music from a PC over the wifi?

DLNA clients and the like can do that.

Yes, the signature difference is bigger than the sound quality improvements here on the X vs. the F.  Still on an overall sound quality standpoint, the refinements the F has over the X are more impressive to my ears.  It is always easier to develop players with organic and more colored to the sound than one with extreme clarity that also able to handle explosive dynamics.  I also find the F's bass to be firmer with better definitions to boost.  Don't you just like the transfer speed on the F compared to a very lackluster speed on the X?

Just got my F807 and currently transferring songs... and I got a few questions already lol...

1. how to disable speakers? the speakers are kinda annoying to me lol...
2. cover.jpg doesnt work.. so what software do you guys use for embedding album art?
3. any suggested resolution? i noticed that 300x300 is abit small for album art.

thanks!

1.  Let me know if you find a way yourself. :)
2.  I use "audioshell" http://www.softpointer.com/AudioShell.htm but for ripping straight from CD, I'm using Easycdextractor 16 with great results.  Easycdextractor has a 30 days trail period and is capable with 24 bit 96khz files.  This software also allows user to edit metadata.  Very handy software.
3.  I tend to use a minimum of 400x400 but 300x300 is okay if you can't find any better.  For better results, 500x500 is nice though.  You can hunt album arts from amazon music site.  Their album arts are usually 500x500 or greater.

mp3tag is always your friend.
600x600 works best almost everywhere.

thanks guys. i use 300x300 because i thought its already enough. ill try to use 500x500 or more later!

@ purk

its possible to disable the speakers after rooting the F but i dont feel like doing it haha.. it is just a hunch though...

@ AyeVeeN

i think the back panel is also made of aluminum(?)since it felt cold when i held onto it this morning. i compared it with the plastic back panel of my SGS2.

anyways guys, more questions:

1. how the heck do i create a playlist here? xD i bet there is no playlist maker on the music player itself, so it needs to be created by using the computer i guess...?
2. if my answer to the number 1 is correct, any software to make playlists?
3. where can i find the "task manager"? it seems the only way to close apps is to hold the home button and close apps there? my SGS2, which runs android 4.0 as well, i think.. can kill apps with the stock app manager/task manager, so i thought the F also have that feature.
4. optional question, is it advisable to install third party launchers like apex launcher? will it disable some programs with it?
5. can i move the google search bar? i think it is placed too high LOL

my golly, I had more questions with the F than the dx100 when i first got it xD

i only have a very short period of time listening to it, like 10-15 minutes, because i was really sleepy after i finish editing and copying songs, and manualy embedding artwork into the F. it definitely has less bass than the Z, or the dx100(!),and not sure if the F is really detailed or the treble is just playing tricks on my mind hehehe... the F has a very nice resolution though!

the F is possibly not a match with one of my favorite headphones though, the cd900st =( althoughi just listened using it with 3 minutes of playtime. also tried using ex800st with ex1000 cables and i kinda like whats coming out of the pair, specially in EDM tracks.

will post more stuff once my ear is back to normal... im hearing more volume in my right ear for some reason again, and i dont even listen at really loud volumes anymore. need to rest my ears for a week again i guess.

also, i was quite surprised at the free NC? iem that came with it, warm and lush... i kinda like it lol... but im generally not fond of the sound sig. tried without NC on that time. I think it is an NC iem since the model number has NC number on it.

Does anyone know how to put videos into it. Although I have mostly music in it, sometime I'd like to watch videos when I'm not in an area where there is wifi etc.

Thanks to all you guys who put so much information into this thread.

just create a folder named "videos" or "movies" or "porn" on the root directlry and put your files there, then open your video-playing app and it will most likely detect it =)
