Thanks again, legendcheater.  I suppose it's not surprising that the 1.10 file at this UK link is identical to the 1.10 file I downloaded from the AU link. Given that the AU and US files for 1.20 are identical, I should think that the hardware sold in the U.S. can use the AU or UK downloads.

I'm most grateful for your having tried and succeeded at going back to 1.10 from 1.20.  

   Now we know that's an available option. But I'm glad it fixed your problem, too, of course.

Nice setup. What's the battery life you are getting on your A17 with this setup?

I reverted back to fw V1.10 and my A15 is working properly and recognising my sd card again. Strange that V1.20 didn't work on my player!!!
 
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help in getting my A15 running again.
 
I think I will let Sony know that this caused a problem on some players. There must be quite a few people who have updated the firmware who don't know that you can go back and don't know where to find the file.

no only that you can apply those efefcrs on hi-res files but it hink you still use the hi-red audio effects
