Lol. It's a pity the music recording world doesn't frown upon heavy-handed dynamic range compression to make everything louder.
I'm hardly one for new music so I don't have the unfortunate chance to hear how pervasive or not the bad ole dynamics crusher known as the loudness war still is. Still pretty bad?

Me, up to 41,852 tracks in my personal library and most of that is FLAC then converted to lossy for mobile use with ReplayGain applied. No worrying about all the different (or not) implementations of ReplayGain.

It's still going full force. Some artists/producers are trying to go change it, but not many.

Btw, what is replaygain?

I'd try to explain it, but will probably mangle something in the process. I've been using it for I don't even know how many years.

For my usage, my FLAC library lives on my main PC and is what I use when playing while at the computer via JDS Element II and various headphones. ReplayGain is applied at the album level at the output stage of Foobar2000 and that signal goes off to the JDS. For mobile usage (everything on microSD), FLACs are converted to AAC and any processing, including ReplayGain, are applied during the conversion. Done.

I'm not really one for new music either. I mostly notice it when I have the misfortune to stumble across a remaster.

Ah yes, well that is a huge issue, (which basically boils down to music artists and music labels all wanting their product to 'stand out' louder than other artists product)
A 'sonic greed' that disregards sonic quality.
I always thought it was the music label execs rather than the artists but I have to admit I've never asked them personally.

"Remastered" Ugh. That's a term that makes me cringe unless it's from Mobile Fidelity (MoFi). Given the choice between original release and remaster, I almost always pick the original but will give a remaster a fair shake to at least compare.

Does anyone have the BeyerDynamic DT1990 Pro(250ohm) and if so, have they tried it with the ZX-507? wondering how power scaling goes for it in SE ?

Just bought one of these and really enjoying the sound. I've owned the zx300 and the wm1a two times, recently had a dx160, plenue 1, 2 mkii, AK 25, AK sa700.

Of all of those I rate the sa700 sound as the best in my opinion. I'd put the zx507 above the wm1a in terms of sound though. I found the wm1a fairly closed in for sound stage.
