Note - I am a newbie to the audiophile world.

This is a generic question. Does the balanced port also enhances SQ even with non power hungry IEMs like SE846, Andromeda or Vega?

Why wouldn’t it ? WM1Z will work with anything that is supported and that including FLAC

Just from reading the past couple of post it sounded like it was having problems with files.

On another note every time I want to buy the WM1Z everyone is asking full retail, then I am tight with money the are almost giving it away. Today is that day last week new $2200 this week everyone wants $2900+ Grrrrr

Thank you for the link..

Funny thing is I did for almost 20 minutes and he is the nicest salesperson too talk to and ask a million questions and never felt rushed. But I am stuck on getting Sony NW-WM1Z or a Woo Audio WA22 amp..

Given a perfect amplifier, it job is to amplifying the source sound quality. So....if your source sound like a duck, your amplifier will not produce chicken voice

That’s an interesting dilemma between two different types of products. FYI, I’m not sure I could be considered much of a sales person. But I hope in that 20 minutes I was able to give you usable information on your search for audio nirvana :)

I heard some reference setups that sounded better than all below, like Dave dac, Terminator dac, other R2R dacs.

I had ygg1, loved it and sold it.
I had Holo Spring R2R dac, loved and sold it.

Then my situation required mobility, so
I had Sony wm1a, loved it and sold it

I now have Sony WM1z.
Love it.
Keeping it.
Totally satisfied.
Resolve is close enough to best desktops, which can also be said with some other top portable players.
Yet the Sony has an organic natural ease of sound that only present in best desktops.

Other players exaggerate detailing, or skew width, or have distance without layering, like a wall of sound, or are too busy or impressive in one aspect, so as to make you take notice of itself.
Those units tend to be fatiguing when they constantly try make you aware of things.

I like the flow of how natural the Sony presentation is.
Something that is not done by the others.

Fanboys of other players may state their unit has more of some aspect, when they not realize that most other units skew the image to sound more impressive.

When you own a yggy or higher, you know when image is skewed, one way or another..

So I can just enjoy the music with the Sony.
Its already at a high enough level and has that organic natural presentation.
:)

I agree with your impressions, and don’t go trying out Sony DMP-Z1. If you love the WM-1Z....you won’t be able to resist burning out your pocket x_X....it happened to me

that's great you have found the 1Z beat even many dedicated desktop DACs :)

I have read lines many times that other DAPs like the A&K SP series is a detail monster or N8 adds more meat, but to me the 1Z has always been enough micro details and spacious soundstage :)
