SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Well I am really enjoying Sony Sound processing feature so much so that I’m planning to build offline library. Was into streaming since 2016 and haven’t bought much music and this DAP with Walkman music app and processing impressed me so much that I bought 5 albums yesterday from Qobuz.
However for long term will buy some used CD and rip it as buying those Hi-res files is not feasible long term.

I was previously wanted to get zx 707 to replace my wm1a for streaming purposes, mainly apple music.
Reason i didn’t want the Wm1Am2 is because of the slower cpu and sluggishness when using apple music.
But now since the zx707 is crippled in my country (Singapore) I’ve considering to get the Wm1Am2 instead for my ier z1r
But I’ve browse several other threads and now considering the ibasso dx 320 also.

Anyone here compared Wm1Am2 to ibasso dx 320 before ?
I wondered the synergy between them and Ier z1r

I’m sure it’s been mentioned before but I don’t have time to scroll down. So just a quick question for you all. The new EU volume capped wm1z m2 does it have enough power to sufficiently drive easy to drive over ear headphones? (Like the ones I’m using below) At least for normal listening volumes? Thanks!

Mentioned in A300 thread too:

Have WM1AM2 with upto 40hrs playback and see the NW-A306 has upto 36 hrs, but as a streaming service music user with other apps its interesting the A is rated even longer than the 1AM2!

1AM2
BATTERY LIFE - CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK MUSIC(OTHER MUSIC APP)MP3 (128kbps) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx. 18 hrs, MP3 (128kbps) / Balanced standard-jack: Approx. 18 hrs

Nw-A306
BATTERY LIFE - CONTINUOUS PLAYBACK MUSIC(OTHER MUSIC APP)MP3 (128kbps, offline mode) / Stereo mini-jack: Approx.26

In my opinion unfortunately no
the European version of WM1ZM2 isn't even able to drive the IER-Z1R instead, and the association with the MDR-Z1R is just sad!

Probably due to the more efficient CPU which is resampling when using "other music apps" but not with Walkman Player. The bigger battery comes into play when only using Walkman Player but then runs down faster on WM1AM2 when resampling.

Or maybe other apps are using the red path this time!

I plan to check that on my A306 via logcat when I get some time. I doubt it is any different but who knows?

Thanks for letting me know. Crazy with a $3000 dap that won’t drive headphones haha

Well non EU runs fine with 800s and should be able to handle any IEM I feel.
I guess it only makes sense to buy Japanese version then?

Yes, if possible then get JP version. These Walkman are robust and rarely fail and in worst case can be repaired for a fee.

Well with JVC FDX01 I can barely go above 25 or 30 out of 120 in high gain with JP model of 1Z
With 800s, 40 is loud enough for me and I have 80 steps in reserve. May be for song with high DR I can go till 50 but above that will just invite tinnitus in few years.
