SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

The UK Z I just tried could drive my SE846, K10U and FD7 but I'm not paying £3K+ for a crippled device when I can import the full designed version outside of EU/UK area and to add to insult, cheaper too (Amazon Japan).

I might want to power a headphone in the future. With a ZX507 a volume on low gain of 45/120 EU vs 90/120 Japanese and no high gain option either is taking the piss.

If your happy with these limitations and extra costs then of course, go for it.

PM-3 102 dB Sensitivity 26 Ohm
SE846 114 dB Sensitivity 8 Ohm (<< 85-90/120 even on balanced!) Compared to: Integrated ESS AMP in DAC on a £310 Hiby R5G2 of 28/100 low gain balanced. Out of 3.5mm headphone socket on my S10+ about 55-60% volume.

Does Sony even state the output without high gain even for no EU spec?

Headphone Out (Stereo mini-jack)

FREQUENCY20-40,000 Hz
MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)60mW+60mW (High Gain)

Headphone Out (Balanced standard-jack)

FREQUENCY20-40,000 Hz
MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)250mW+250mW (High Gain)

I didn't paid 3K but only 1,1K😅
Without joking, it's not normal to didn't full enjoy our DAP. I agree with you.
Maybe if I need more power, i'll buy later the japan one.
I have my ZX-100 since 7 years and it runs daily like the first day. So thé warrenty is not the reason. I've a discount of 220€ so 1100€ an AM2, it's a good deal

I'm starting to hear a buzz around here. not sure if i'm doing the test correctly? i'm suppose stop soon i hear that fuzzbuzzchirp sound, right?

not sure

Nice, I’m 45 year old and I got 15kHz
I am 58. With my Lotoo Paw Gold Touch and Shure SRH1840 headphones I topped out at 15,000 Hz. I am sure genetics and environment impact this. Try different equipment. I only got 13,650 Hz with other equipment.

I think this test could at least give some hint on your rough hearing ability. I remember it states it's 100% accurate, right? That's for sure, a joke. As you mentioned correctly the equipment is important and may deliver more or less different results. Our consumer equipment is certainly not meant to be used for accurate measurements.

All I know is that my music sounds great with what I have.

And that's the most important thing. You may have a physically perfect signal and rendering. But, we know some would like it and some not. It's simply unbelievable the truly enormous range of equipment we can choose from. Let's be happy. Some rather like to know, and others want to believe 😉

Or be Data off Star Trek.

I'm not going to say my Micron card is audibly better than my Sandisk's but I'm happy with how music sounds from it :relaxed:
Speaking from my experience of comparing Internal Storage vs Micron 1TB (MTSD1T0AKC7MS-1WT) vs SanDisk Extreme playback on WM1ZM2, the internal storage sounds the best while both micro SD cards are about the same, yet being inferior to the internal storage. How would I describe the sound coming out of Micron and SanDisk? A bit suppressed (just like the feeling the sample rate dropped), less airy and less dynamic.

I'd say Micron is audibly better than SanDisk, but only marginally better (almost indiscernible). I'd also add that I am not happy with how music sounds off Micron given I paid twice as much for it as opposed to SanDisk Extreme.

Sony + Sony = 😍

If you want to buy into an "ecosystem of sound" there's only one company right now doing that at the very highest level with IEMs, headphones, desktops and portable sources.

There’s def something special about how a full Sony combo sounds.

Could not have said it any better than your reply.

Talking about internal storage and micro as cards, actually I really enjoy listening YouTube songs using Bluetooth. Granted it’s not as great as those, but it’s darn good and there’s so many choices. And for some reason, connecting to iPhone do sounds great, like it’s more trebley and good bass too.
