Gromu, because of the results I received when using the fo.Q (or other mods mentioned) with these Sony mdr-z7m2 headphones I decided to mention it in this thread. I am actually not surprised many others have not tried the mods because on the face of it sounds a bit far fetched. dougms3 has tried everything I recommended including on his components. dougms3 has a lot of pictures and can in his own words share with you his experiences, what he did, and the results he has received with what he has tried. Maybe he will chime in on this thread seeing these posts or you can private message him. If you are planning to use the fo.Q T-102 on the headphones like I or he did you will have a lot of the material left over. You can use the rest of the dampening material on the components in your system to further improve sonic reproduction.
You should check page 136 and follow everything cdacosta posted.
I can't say enough about how valuable the info he is sharing. Not just the headphones but the material works just as well if not better on dacs and amps.
If you're looking for the ta 102 tape it's on Amazon Japan for $42 shipped, I received in one week to NJ after placing the order.
Thank you both for this information. I'm getting my Z7M2 later this week, so I'll probably want to mod it soon after. The cost is pretty small for the benefits you both describe.
As for finding the tape on Amazon japan, I only see the TA-52 tape. It seems the TA 102 might be unavailable right now?

I guess its not available at the moment but you may want some of that other tape too.
Theres alot of ebay sellers selling from Japan also.
I already burned through my two sheets, only have one strip left.
cdacosta has put alot of thought and tinkering into this mod. The bass quality and volume increase is substantial but everything else improves with it as well, mids are more pronounced and highs are clearer, detailed with more microdetail. I think you'll be shocked at the difference it makes.

I get the fo.Q from eBay. Takes about 2 weeks from Japan and I am in California. Also to note, new out of the box for me the mdr-z7m2 needed break-in. Took about 250 or so hours, the improvement is slight but was noticeable. I just used a variety of pink noise and frequency sweeps. I did the break-in before modding so I can hear for changes between mods.
To me before any mods the z7m2 sounded ok, would do what I needed, which was a decent closed headphones for an upstairs office. After the mods these headphones perform extremely well, more than what I was hoping for originally. Amazing for the price, especially if you have a powerful enough amp to push them. After modding they will scale with your gear.
lighter, smaller, more solidly build. and ah yeah.... waaaay cheaper. Im comfortable with bringing my Z7 out with a hardcase, but my Z1R? weekend cans. its motly inside its box on any other time.
Soundsig is close enough i get my dose of Sony sound when im travelling.

That's a decent cost, IMO; it's less than half the asking price of a brand-new MDR-Z7M2.
Look at the headband and the pads; these are the first to go, and are the main contact points with parts of your body. If the pads are cracking or flaking, you'll probably need to get them replaced, and official Sony pads aren't cheap (if I remember correctly).
I usually buy from a seller named xinhs, he will terminate anything you want at a very reasonable or no additional cost. You can ask him to make a cable with the screw on connector.

It'll work but I have a couple cables for my Z7m2 and some are loose some are ok its hit or miss so its probably a safer bet to get the screw on. The connector is in a weird spot and angle as well which tends to get pulled out easily.
