15 posts isn't enough to upload an attachment, thus i uploaded the file to a file upload/share website

i ran the file in kefir convolution plugin with the mix knob at 100% .. gain at 0.0 .. time at .03 seconds

try that one..
it uses correction filters to flatten the frequency response.
doesn't really say anything about removing the echo of the device i had it in, but it does say it helps make the frequency response more flat.

try it in SIR convolution with the auto gain off and the wet slider at 0.0

i still havent been able to make kefir work the way i want it to (i thought i did.. until i started working with these EQ 'filters' that can be exported as an impulse response)

reverberate works too.

This thread is a decade old but still doesn't fail to make me laugh :D You're gonna take headphones that have almost nothing to offer besides the bass and comfort (and maybe looks if you're into 18-wheelers) and EQ out the bass? That's... interesting.

In all seriousness, I've just bought a pair of the XB500's to replace my broken M-Audio Q40's (the left side stopped working and they were too uncomfortable for me anyway) and I found that I need more, not less bass than what the flat EQ provides. A +6db boost does the trick, the second disc of Trance Energy Australia 2009 (the one mixed by Simon Patterson) really makes the XB500's go boom boom wobble wobble the way I expected them to. The bass is a bit muddy but there's a lot more of it than in the Q40's, and it seems to be pretty consistent across the board. Actually +6db is too much of a boost (it introduces distortion), +4db seems to be the upper limit. This means that you don't get enough bass in my view. I also gave a +4db boost to the highs to improve the hi-hats. I didn't touch the mids as the result wouldn't be the best when you're aiming at a V-shaped EQ. The default, unequalized mids suck hard. The main lead in Patterson's "Always" sounds bland and lifeless and so do the vocals in the Joint Operations Centre's remix of Jon O'Bir's "Found A Way". $10 Panasonic IEM's provide better mids than these, they're truly that bad - but it's more noticeable in certain tracks than in others.

I like the bass (well, the amount of it - not necessarily its quality) but I can't stand their lack of clarity. I think I'll keep searching, Ultrasone HFI-580 (aka DJ1) is probably the only alternative. They're too sibilant and a bit uncomfortable but I can't see any other choice. There's also the Pro 900's but they need an amp to release the bass.

EDIT: The XB500's aren't terribly comfortable either. They have a rather significant clamping force, more similar than not to the Q40's. This is not necessarily always bad - the Q40's were perfect for cycling. They didn't fall off my head even once.
