Those were mine. They seriously have barely been used. I can't imagine a pair from 1989 having any less hours on them.
I was hoping to get the 9999 I started the auction. But hey I guess you never know how many rich people are out there desperate for something rare.

Congrats man. I'm happy for you. That gotta be an all time high for the R10....that's a price of a decent used car.

Insane price but R10 is a true masterpiece in any kinf of way. I used to have not one but two ! I regret to not keep them more time but it's like that you gonna live something very unique being a r10 owner ! Congrats.

Well this makes sense if the buyer's budget was $16,000. Then he can still afford an HD800S to cover all the genres of music that the R10 handles poorly

Have u actually properly audition the 800s yet? If so, I love to hear your thought on them. Impressions from online forums don't count!

I didn't make any hard statements about the 800S sound. Just that it would be sensible to pair with something that has a chance of playing hard rock, for example. Fine then, pair it with an HD650 -- I've heard those

I'll never own a pair of R-10's, but I was wondering if someone could humor me and tell me what Sony did to the R10 for people to label the "bass heavy" and "bass light'?

Likely by the driver number. There were four driver numbers in total. You can not differentiate the "bass heavy" and "bass light" by serial number either. And the term "bass heavy" is in relative of "bass light". The R10 is not know to have a lot of bass quantity period.

Purk, I think he meant: "what was changed in the R10 to give it slightly more bass". Does anyone know for sure?

I would have to say the driver number if you ask me.

I was just wondering because of all the "bass light" and "bass heavy" talk in the thread. From what I gathered, "bass heavy" R10's are approximately serial #'s 1000 and up? Thanks for the information guys.
