Personally, I'm not surprised. I've always found it surprising that an engineer would use the SRH840 or the ATH-M50, given that they seem a little "colored" to my ears. The 7509HD and the DT 250 would seem much better for that, but since I'm not a studio rat, what do I know?

Your ears are probably just as good as their ears. What is your frame of reference for judging colored vs. neutral? I use the 240DF, which to my ears is the closest to 'flat' and balanced that I've heard.

I prefer the sig of the SRH840, they sound richer and more full of body to me.

But when it comes to closed-back circumaural cans, I've pretty much reached the end of my journey with the Beyerdynamic DT 150. I just got them two days ago, and I love everything about them.
