Sony IER-M9 impressions thread

I feel i am missing something, i love the sony signature20230611_163649~2.jpg sound, but i get no wow factor with these no matter how much i use them. Also i just cant get a comfy fit, both inside and outside my ears
Try switching to foam tips. To me M7/M9 sound broken without them, with very weak bass and a loss of impact.
The sound signature is not the most dynamic one and needs high SPL to sound the best.

Right, you need to listen on higher volume level to wake them up

I’ve actually considered going for a Z1R as well but my biggest concern with those is the fitting, a lot of complaints about how they just don’t fit very well in some ears and since I don’t live near a place I could demo them, I’ve been looking into the M9 instead I know those will fit really well in my ears.
You can’t beat the m9 for fit they are really comfy. Z1R has a totally different sound signature every song is like a live performance at the studio or stage, every instrument sounds so lifelike.

If you aren’t grossed out by testing IEMs that is the safest option. I took the risk and bought the m9 and z1r following the opinions of someone with similar tastes as me and I have zero regrets on z1r.

If u want something close to z1r sound try the ie600, i rank z1r, ie600 and m9 as my favorite IEMs so far.

Yeah I love how my M7’s fit , so I’m glad once I get the M9’s they should fit just fine. Still thought I wish I could demo the Z1R somewhere, I keep reading online how great they sound and I’m curious to try them for myself.

it’s a very different sound signature with the z1r hybrid driver array and how it’s tuned to sound like listening to speakers.

But with the m7/m9 you are already having sound quality that is about as good as it gets and they are more comfy than the z1r (also imo to bring out the z1r’s sound potential an amp is needed).

Tri Clarion tips work pretty well with the M9 for me, at least as it pertains to a silicone tip that doesn't create a vacuum seal effect. I don't know if I've tip rolled an IEM more than this one haha.

Yeah, no wonder people that recommended using the M9 with deep insertion and silicone tips on the first pages ended up selling theirs.

My new tip of choice is double flange silicone tips. I’ve realised that I got to go past the second bend in my ear to get the ideal sound. This is a massive sound upgrade for me. No vacuum effect, dynamics are amazing, and isolation is immense. I would definitely recommend trying double flange tips to anyone that hasn’t given them a go yet :)

Agree, I can hear a slight sonic improvement with the Kimber cable. I feel like it adds a touch of weight to each note. It could be placebo but I'm happy with it too.

It also fits in the stock case without a problem so it's win win :)

Is it not dangerous to put the cable in that angle ?
Is your IEM spin easily when using Kimber Cable z because mine spins and I got worried that it may damage the female mmcx like it does to xba-z5

I will get my callipers out if i can find them
The AIR1 is the size I use, I use M but would recommend to go for the SML set for first purchase
