Sony EX800ST impressions

Well it's IEM, these stuff literally go into yur ear, of course each experience will be different.
For me, as long as you got the right tip Sony's Frankenstein-esque hang in your ears iem flagships are very comfortable, like "disappear in your ear" comfortable, as most of the weight are handled by the cable and the iem are just an anchor.

spent a few days in tokyo over the weekend and i spent some time in e-earphone again to demo iems and headphones. besides fitear iMarge, I was also impressed by the Acoustune HS2000MX Mk. 3 as well as Sony MDR-EX800ST.

The ex800st looks very weird and it's difficult to figure out how to wear it properly. sound isolation is quite poor using the stock tips. but the 16mm DD driver hugely impressed! it's very similar to the Justear Clubsound japan ver. I'm thinking to order. very spacious sounding with exceptional great bass. the treble is a bit rolled-off and not sounding as detailed as recent BA/EST iems. the 2010 model trades blow with much more expensive iems.

better yet, it's made in Japan and it costs just a fraction of total's mid-tier iems!!! the sound is very impressive. a perfect example why good sound is not equivalent to expensive price. it's my best buy of 2024 so far :relaxed:

There was always a lot of marketing BS involved in the promotion of new IEM designs over the past 15 years. Last time I checked I was not so impressed by the technicalities of multi BA designs compared to single driver designs. Maybe the EST designs are different but I'm sure a good dynamic or planar design can hold its own when it comes to the overall cohesiveness of the presentation.

Ah, ex800st, a pair of iem filled with memories! I remember buying it back when I was still in senior high, I saved money for weeks, scrimping on daily expenses until I finally had enough to purchase it. That's the beginning of my journey into the iem-fi (tho later I replaced the ex800st with EX1000)
