Audacity is free and widely available to I think that's a good standard.

I'm all signed up on the site too (same username). Sounds good to have Audacity as the standard, it works nicely on MacOS X too. Once the details and layout are decided, it'd be good to have some simple template to make posting easier and help keep the standards. Not fiddled around with MediaWiki to know if this is easy or not. I'd be keen to code such a thing though if it's feasible.

Oh, and I also wished for a site like this around post 81 in the last thread but couldn't care less about credits.

Crediting the "Head-fi community" is a good idea.

Once you guys decide on a standard I'll start scanning my library. I have a good deal of music and WAY too much time on my hands. BTW does audacity scan FLAC? Cause that's what my whole library is in.

Oh yea and there should be a list of the albums you already have. So that way people aren't scanning the same stuff as others.

Audacity works fine with FLAC files on my computer.

Edit: It looks like you have to have version 1.2.5 or later though.

True, that could be a problem. I'll do the more obscure/local stuff I have first when the time comes.

Edit: It's probably worth having the media noted as well. SACD and DVD-A may not be that common but some of them have poor mastering too.

Yes, I'm just pointing out other formats are not immune to it.

That's a very good idea, I'd hate to waste my time on an album someone is already planning on doing.

I'll type up a list of the first 20 or so CDs i'll be doing and post it here.

Before things start to go up on the site I want to draft a page template that all new pages can start from with you guys. I hope to get that done this week. In the meantime, please post lists of which music you're going to add (when things are up and running) to avoid double posts. The more you get things ready now the more we will have to start up with.

Hopefully we won't need to post lists like that once SongView is up and running with the correct entry form/template.

Team members, respond to my pm. Thanks.

Oh, of course not. It's just in the meantime so that contributors can get started before the template is done.

I see Audacity just scales the waveform horizontally to fit the window size upon opening the file. Do we care about keeping the window width the same for all tracks or just let it go as wide as our monitors allow?

Also, I assume for each lossless track we want the "Waveform" (not "Waveform (db)") and the "Spectrum" with a maximum frequency of 22050 and FFT size of 256.

If that's okay I'll do the following CDs in full...
Cansei De Ser Sexy (self titled)
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Joanna Newsom - Ys
