Yeah, crazy topic huh? Here's the deal: my friends and I are doing a CD exchange, and I want to do a CD with this theme (songs sung from a killer's point of view).

I've got some of the more obvious songs (Jenny Was A Friend of Mine, Possum Kingdom, Killing An Arab, Psycho Killer, How Could I Just Kill A Man, Folsom Prison Blues, a couple Morrissey/Smith songs).

I have one rap song (Kim by Eminem), wouldn't mind adding other rap songs (like Murder Was the Case They Gave Me) and maybe one or two country songs and some blues songs. I'd like to get an interesting mix of genres that are representative of the theme.

Do you guys have other suggestions? Am I missing some really obvious songs? I'd also welcome suggestions of songs about murder that aren't necessarily sung from the killer's point of view (like Somebody Got Murdered by The Clash).

Any help appreciated!

There is some debate around this but I'd back "Son of Sam" by Elliott Smith.

I'm not sure what qualifies. Does it have to be a song entirely about killing someone/people?

I want to snap your neck in two, and leave you for dead, so dead

FfaF, She drove me to Daytime TV

Just kill him, F*$@# kill him, .....F$&^%*& kill him, kill him just F*$^% kill him....
Shellac, Prayer to God

You have to add something from Nick Cave's Murder Ballads. All songs fit the theme, but my favourites are probably O'Malley's Bar that is from killers point of view and Stagger Lee. Also Song Of Joy, the whole song isn't about the murder, but it ends with one.

"Put the blame on Mame" by Rita Hayworth in Gilda. Not from the killers point of view but in third person, the song narrates a very somber murder

They once had a shootin' -up in the Klondike when they got Dan McGrew.
Folks were puttin' the blame on the lady known as Lew
that's the story that went around, but here's the real lowdown:
Put the blame on Mame boys,
put the blame on Mame
Mame did a dance called the Hichy-koo,
that's the thing that slew McGrew
So you can, Put the blame on Mame boy,
Put the blame on Mame...

'Hey Joe' - Jimi

Most of the songs from 'Murder Ballads' - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

'Pilate's Dream' - from Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack ('Trial Before Pilate' would be more appropriate I guess but its not as nice a song)

'Country Death Song' - Violent Femmes

P.S. For killer songs

, consider Rocky Racoon...I've never really known if he made it through the duel or not.

edit: oops-just saw my repeats

There's that Peter Gabriel song about the Kennedy assassination. Marty Robbins' El Paso is a classic too. It even has a really good death scene. "Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel a sharp burning pain in my side..."

See ya

Come on, folks! You're missing an easy one:

"Bang Bang, Maxwell's silver hammer came down on his head. Bang Bang, Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that he was dead......"

Also, the live version of "The End" by the Doors is "killer" - "The killer awoke before dawn.... Father? Yes son? I want to kill you...."

And let's not forget, "Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand? I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady, you know I caught her messin' around with another man..."

Oh, and if you believe Charles Manson, Helter Skelter is call to kill.
