Somic EFi-82 MT: Believe the Hype

I think you will find that the same Chinese factory injection molds the bodies for the Sony's as well as the SOMiC's and many other brands that fit that mold design or variation thereof.

Which is good to know as I can get a pair of silver yokes for my EFi82-MT's now...

There are design similarities, but counterfeit is a very strong word and implies fraud. Counterfeits are made to mimic the original product exactly, Sony logos and the exact color scheme would also be used in that case.

If what you said was said towards a US based company and their product, you would need strong evidence to back such a claim up, or they could sue you for Libel right from what is posted on this very internet forum. You would get a Cease and Desist letter first to remove it. It has happened before.

In fact, a US company (Soniq) does import this headphone and rebrands it under their company name and charges $99 for it. They could very much sue you if you said the same about their product.

"Soniq", sells them for $99 in the US, which gives you an idea of the price/performance ratio.

I'm not offended, but be careful on making such claims. Being a Chinese company doesn't mean they are automatically a lesser company than most international brands, and don't deserve the same respectful business treatment. I find their quality better than the majority of well known audio products you see that are pushed in stores like Best Buy.

+1

now, the question is...which are better in overall sound quality? the sonys or the somics?

Yep. Aliexpress is legit. It's basically chinese ebay. That or dx.com if you want to use paypal.

$35 is just an awesome value on these, as they sound much, much better than typical $80-100 headphones. Hidden gems that not too many people know of.

The soniqs are modified from what I've read and they only cost $60 now...months and months later.
My question, do the different drivers in the soniqs warrant the $10 difference, going off amazon prices?

edit

different impedence, different frequency range

On somic's website it says mm185 has a sensitivity of 86±3dB. That is really inefficient, even if the impedance is only 32ohm. Bhazard, did you notice mm185 was hard to drive or is there a mistake in specs on somics website? Or maybe I'm getting something wrong here...I'm not really a tech kinda guy.
