A  few comments:
 
- iPhone 5 impedance has been measured this week by Sonobe at 3.3
 
- Sony chart applies for non EU units. Unfortunately many Sonys sold in Europe are volume capped (via higher output impedance)
 
. Some boutique or 'audiophile grade' devices' output impedance is outrageous. Coupled to horrid UI puts them on the verge of a (fidelity) scam offense.
 
- Touch 5 is the best sounding iPod ever. In the realm of iPhone 4/4S and iPad 3.

Bumped as there seems to be a lot of talk about output impedance recently.
 
Also here the amps, they can be used to `fix` the sources high impedance or just perhaps improve the sound and provide more power.

Hey, maybe I'm a noob or whatever but why the impedance of the ipod touch 4th gen is so low? I've checked the Apple website for full spec and it says that its impedance is 32 ohms. http://support.apple.com/kb/SP594. Is it something to do with the 1/8th rule? 32/8=4. The results above are pretty close to 4. I'm slightly confused here.
 
I plan to buy a Ortofon e-Q5 and a reviewer says that players with output 32 ohms will struggle with the e-Q5. So how do I know if my old ipod touch 4th gen is up to the task? Somewhere around 8 ohms or less would do perfectly.

Output impedance should be close to zero as possible, your ortofon has an impedance of 40 according to website, there will be no problems

The list has been there for a while. I think before ipad 4 was released so I assumed the new ipad is ipad 3. Apple referred ipad 4 as "ipad with retina display" also.

I see... Thanks for explaining. Looks like iPad 3 and iPhone 4 is best of the Apple bunch. Has anyone tested the new iPad Mini? Is iPod Touch 5th the current one?
