How do I set the rip to be high quality,
I just ripped some cds and when I compare it to my sony PCDP, the PCDP blows it away :/ hrm.. its not a small difference as what Ive read on impressions, its like a ridiculous loss in fidelity according to me ears.

Im thinking maybe I need to adjust the rip setting? as I do not know how to do that, Im just doing everything stock setting ATM.

or maybe its just the headphone out?

what EQ preset is best?

open ITUNES-> EDIT -> Preferences -> Importing:
Select mp3 or AAC or ALAC, whichever you prefer
Then select what bitrate you want

you could also use EAC to rip your music

How to rip high quality mp3s

I haven't found a good eq setting, as I find the stock setting through the headphone out pretty decent.

I have not heard the other player that you had, but I used to have a Rio Carbon and I prefer the sound from the iPod a lot more, even though the Carbon was easier to transfer songs. The ipod has a lot more detail IMO.

ok

I just listened to the 320 bit rate mp3s using the pocket dock line out..

it doesnt sound much different from the headphone out lol.
the line out sounds just like the headphone out, with a fixed volume output.

is this normal?

I cant say thats normal, I notice a very large difference between pocket dock line out and the headphone out with my A900's and the DT770's.

with the dt770's bass becomes noticabily stronger as well as sharper, vocals apear more upfron instead of way back on the stage where they were in the headphone out and their is a crispness to the music that isnt there through the headphone out

with the A900 the bass again becomes noticabily more apparent as well as more energetic, the impact of the bass also increases. Soundstage is expanded considerabily and details are revieled a little more.

I just did this test using 192 vbr mp3 (weezer- surf wax america) aswell as 320 AAC (reel big fish- where have you been)

I hear very little difference with my E2c's though

Im using a pimeta class a biased amp with my hd600's and from the short listening with the 320 aac, I dont hear what you are hearing

sounds like the headphone out at a fixed volume to me

I heard a difference in my pcdp line out,

not with the Ipod though. The sound quality wasnt as good as I thought it would be.

so what am I doing wrong? Was I expecting too much from the ipod? My ho hum soundblaster card on the pc sounds miles better then the Ipod line out using the same sound files.

can anyone recommend me a player with better sound quality? My muvo still sounds better from its head phone out, lol

Return it and wait 7 days for the possible new Ipod product announcement!

I must say these things arent built to last either, since Ive had it the past few days, the button has stuck, the screen has froze, and the case is strewn with scracthes wilst keys in my pocket.

You could try treating it a little better...

nah, if its a portable, music player, I want to be able to take it anywhere and not have to worry about baby'ing it, I want to be able to toss it in my bag and head out, or pocket conveniently.

My Muvo slim has taken far more beating then this, but seems to be built much better in terms of longevity. and yes amazingly the muvo sounds better then my ipod.

any recommendations on a portable music player that sounds better then the ipod?

RnB, do you notice more bass from the line-out as opposed to the headphone-out of the ipod? That's the biggest difference to me...

(no bass roll off from the line-out)
