So I broke down and bought an Ipod mini

for the life of me I cant get good sound from the ipod no matter what EQ I use

.

its bearable, but since I already know that my cheap sound blaster card and Muvo sounds miles better with the exact same files. this doesnt sit well with me,

I really think now the Ipod sounds like crap. even with the line out and all the eqs sound like crap.

::awaits fanboys to flame::

but honestly, it does sound like crap to me. I didnt think the Ipod would adversely effect my music enjoyment to this much of a degree.

I will look for a better sounding music player next time,

what are some recommendations? how are the m-robe and zen micro?

My Muvo slim has taken far more beating then this, but seems to be built much better in terms of longevity. and yes amazingly the muvo sounds better then my ipod.

any recommendations on a portable music player that sounds better then the ipod?

then don't complain about it getting scratched. metal + metal = no.
i guess you havent seen the article wheere this jap dropped his mini on the parking lot and had cars ran over it, screen got crushed, some dents here and there, but it still works fine when you click the play button.

my mini only hanged ONCE in the past year (about 1 year old plus), for whatever reason, it just couldnt boot up. but after some time, it worked again. never had any problems with wheel getting stuck and etc.

and dude, if an mp3 player with a 1-2mil extruded aluminium enclosure doesnt take the beating...what does? you can basically take the mini and smash the micro into pieces, with the mini having some dents on the enclosure, let alone comparing the mini's overall built quality over the muvo.

FYI, NEVER, EVER, use the ipod EQ. it sux, it never works. It distort, suck up battery, and it doesnt make anything sound better. That is if you are running it through the headphone out, it doesnt distort if u have are going line-out -> amp though.

and please make sure u dont have all the volume normalization, yada yada craps enabled. if it still doesnt work for you, sell it off and never buy an ipod again

1) have you checked all the settings? Have you turned off sound enhancer and crossfeed?

2) Have you tried lossless?

You heard no difference between the headphone out and the line out? I've never owned the mini, but with the regular iPod that's not normal at all in my experience. In fact, I would say there's a dramatic difference.

If you're looking for another player, maybe stick to the Creative line if you think the Muvo sounds good.

Your recent purchases (AE-1, go-vibe, iPod mini) have not been so successful it seems. Tough break man.

actually, many of his purchases in the past didn't work out very too well for some reasons

latest amps Ive used

super mini moy - I like, after a bout a year, i wanted something better

go vibe 3 - I installed the opamp backwards in haste "my fault". the sound is great though.

portable pimeta class a biased pure silver wire for hook up- Great, what I am using right now

AE-1 - too neutral, I prefer lively

Sony pcdp, I like it, If it were more portable, Id use it.

Muvo slim - a bit muddy, but I use the built in equlizer to match a sound I prefer.

Ipod - no custom equalizer, my expectations too high?

Cheap sound blaster pc- better then Ipod

I also am prone to roughing up my gear, I like to play with my expensive toys and not baby them
wink.gif
. I think the only high tech toy Ive had that Ive babied is the PSP. because its too pretty to scratch

speaking of roughing up, you should see the crap I put my own personal cables through
wink.gif
. I smash and twist them quite a bit in my bookbag, they work fine and dandy. Im currently using my hd600s as my portable cans and they just get stuffed into my backpack with my books., no case or anything. Probably will make some people cringe to see how I carry them around.
But I bought them to enjoy them, not handle them with a white glove.

I have a bad case of upgraditis. I used to work a bit with a mixer and live sound, at church for a while. I adjusted the frequency range to as close to accurate sound as possible out of the stage speakers, I did this just for a bit, and listen to live acoustic music weekly at my Church, so there is a specific sound I look for. sound that I like
smily_headphones1.gif
. When I listen to worship music on my Ipod, Im used to hearing it a certain way on my PC or pcdp;.

It's probably due to those short instances, that made my ears to finicky. Maybe Im spoiled with what Im used too. I wouldnt think Im too picky though, the cheap line out on my sony pcdp, sounds great to me, just fine and dandy

I may just have to resort to original cd's and a PCDP for my portable.

btw, sorry for those offended by my ipod remarks, no harm intended.

see ya round.

Edit: what is the difference in sound quality between a 320 WMA and 320 AAC?

from the same cd I ripped 320 WMA and AAC versions, my muvo uses WMA.

I want to try one more time with Lossless, I have to find out how to get that started, I think if I try that, it may help.

I didnt think it sounded good at first, I thought it was pretty bad also, until I had an ipod with 320 aac files or what have you, and realized that there is worse out there, now the muvo sounds good to me in comparison.

I think lossless would help even the sound, I need to figure out how to rip lossless now.

Did you make sure the sound enhancement is off? Go into preferences and importing and change it to apple lossless.
