Just got a SMSL M500 (Version 2). Just some very quick impressions but I will say, I am seriously impressed. It's a special gem. Nice and weighty, not to big and feels solid. Heaps of functions, I'll be using it via the USB to my Samsung S20 and poweramp using WAV files. Headphones I've been using are the Ultrasone Edition 11, Focal Clear and Elegia, Audeze Sine DX and some iems. Tin Hifi P1, Audiosense T800. All I can say is it has more than enough power to drive the headphones and iems mentioned above. Amazing dynamics and clarity with a wide and spacious soundstage. I won't get detailed yet with what I hear but I do feel it needs a bit of burn in. But damn, and I mean DAMN!!!!! This thing has amazing SQ, and for the price it's bloody amazing. I used to own a Chord Mojo, easily and immediatly this sounds better to my ears. More detail, more clarity, better instrument separation and imaging with a beautiful and exapansive soundstage. Truly am loving what I am hearing. More to come :)
In which store did you buy it?

Does anyone know how to make the mqa work? I just got one from Amazon and installed the driver. The first time I installed and rebooted my pc it worked and now it doesnt. The firmware is newer than the one they provided on their website. When it works its a gem but in most of the cases I can't get it play higher than 44.1k. I'm using Tidal and set the mqa to passthrough.

This thing sounds insane. For the price, massive bargain 👍😁

Hi, I have a question about the M500's optical jitter reduction. As you might have noticed that there is a DPLL option new in V2. My question is is there a Toslink reclocker needed to clean jittery Toslink input before the signal goes to the M500 or is the DAC itself able to clean the signal?

Also, any ideas on how to contact SMSL as their normal contact information doesn't seem to get responses. @smsl mandy any info is helpful.

Thanks

There is a DPLL function on the V2 M500 2.06 USB firmware version. The V2 version M500 can be upgrade to 2.06 version. The DAC itself can be able to clean the signal.
The DPLL should set the allowable range.Thanks.

Thanks. Nice to hear from you @smsl mandy

Giving the user adjustable DPLL was really great move and setting it to minimum really makes a positive difference.

Just wanted to confirm how the M500 clock (which I am assuyis femto second) compares to Accusilicon chips used in your more expensive DAC, the M400...and if it should make an audible difference.
