took mine out today to listen to them, both sides cracked while in the case, with the case in the box.

tl;dr: Bought my SIVGA Phoenix from @Audio46. Told them they had blemishes. First, they said it's normal; then said maybe someone in my household dropped them; returned them; then they said blemishes are "a wood finish, you can not control the look for the wood or the blemish" & that I'm banned from their store LOL

----------------------------------------

Thank you both for the response. That's exactly what I thought. In fact, there were more spots like this on both cups. I ordered mine from Audio 46. Shipping was fast and the headphones came in with the wrapper on; i.e., brand new. It took me a few days to actually open the box to test the headphones. They do have a 30-day return policy, so I wasn't too worried about it when I opened them after 5 days and tested the headphones for a couple of days before deciding that these blemishes can't be a natural part of the finish. So I decided to request an RMA to return these. No big deal, right? WRONG! What follows is my first email to them and their response to each one after that:

to which I received the following response the next morning:

And it included the RMA info and address... Now thinking back, I should've probably stopped here and should've just shipped the headphones to them. Their policy says they wouldn't pay for the return shipping, which I would've actually been OK with, but in their response above they more than just insinuated that this was normal, and that kind of bothered me... So returned the following email:

Then I got this back from them:

.....I just couldn't believe this any more.... So I wrote:

A few days later they did receive the headphones, and I received this gem in my inbox from the same "customer service" rep:

Obviously, I was done with them the second they started questioning me about this defective unit, but what followed to the very end was.... well, I guess you can be the judge of that. FWIW, they did refund me the full price as well as the return shipping costs. Of course, I'd more than happy to post screenshots of the emails with date/time of each. Maybe I am in the wrong and my manner of communication (?) justified this individual's accusatory tone from the very beginning--this person did sign his name at the end of each email, so it's supposedly the same person each time. I had never had any other dealings with them prior to this purchase as mentioned before.
Every time you send something back that ain't broken the seller takes a hit,2021 gonna be a shock for a lot of folks,I don't like em,send em back days are coming to a end.Besides Audio46 is a great place to shop,if ever in the NYC area check em out,you can demo almost every thing.

I posted pictures of the blemishes; asked several other owners if anyone thought the blemishes were "normal." They were not. To me, having such blemishes on the cup = broken. They could've treated this whole thing much more courteously, but they chose not to. If ever in the NY area, I'll be sure to check out many of the wonderful stores that are available except Audio46 since I was "banned" from shopping there :) Also, I did like the way the headphones sounded very much--later on bought another pair (not from them for obvious reasons) and enjoyed them immensely. And they had absolutely no blemishes or discoloration of any sort.

It's going to be a vicious circle then, as a majority of people have no way of physically trying these products before buying. I've said it before but in my metro area of 3 million people or so and at least 4 hours around there are zero headphone shops other than Guitar Center/Best Buy fare.

I feel your pain, but you have people who want to try everything new without any intention of keeping it and sellers are catching on,makes it bad for everyone else.

I bet many, if not majority, of people are in similar situations where so many products are unavailable locally. It would seemingly take a pretty large increase in 'mass tryouts' to see an appreciable impact on pricing across the board but perhaps I'm wrong. Head-Fi is really a minority of headphone buyers and tryout costs are baked into the economics of more boutique headphone brands and retailers, plus I think it's a minority of buyers who aren't buying on good faith. I know I've sent a few pairs back over the past year, the Phoenix included, but I did have intentions of keeping them if they met the intended need.

Hey folks, saw the Phoenix has been receiving some more attention recently and wanted to weigh in with my review up on Head-Fi and Everyday Listening.

I'm reiterating a lot of what others were saying here, this is undoubtedly a gorgeous headphone to look at and it specialises in providing rich bass alongside clear, natural vocals. I feel separation is one of its shortcomings alongside the thinner, smaller earpads that just satisfy my personal criteria for being over-ear in fit. If you don't mind this, the Phoenix offers a pretty unique package and great build quality for the price. I didn't personally experience any issues with the wood like blemishes or cracks either.

Also included in the review are impressions of the thicker upgrade pads. To summarise, they are pure pleather, no velour, and twist-lock onto the headphones like more others. They do indeed engulf the ears more, especially for me as I have wider ears, which really helps with long-term comfort. The sound is bassier with a more laid-back midrange. The high-end isn't overly affected nor the soundstage imo. I think these are a good option for those struggling with comfort, though I can see why the headphones ship with the thinner velour pads given they provide a generally cleaner and more balanced sound.

Eye candy below :)

If you're looking for a premium midrange headphone, Sivga Pheonix is a really solid choice! It is a very portable headphone that comes with a flexible cable, a nice case, and despite the tiny size, they are still over-the-ear for most folks!

The sound is actually just perfect, and they manage to heavily outlive my expectations, with a really engaging, detailed sound, tons of bass, a nice sparkly treble, and a really natural midrange.

I took the time to compare them to their competitors, pair the Phoenix with a few sources, and also take some high quality photos of the Fire Bird!~

don't listen to him that is anti-consumer shill at it's finest. the end of free returns my butt, seems like a young or unexperienced one what is even worse that paying to get back someone of value (which for lots of sellers means they simply make a little less profit on resale is losing you item and your money. That is what happens when you have to go up against a credit card dispute, if you keep having disputes and returning to pay the credit card company will put you on the crap-list and have a way to instantly refund from you to keep doing business or just ban you from doing business with. It's literally a no-brainer, and if a company sells you wood it needs to be consumer quality and similar to what is listen and shown in pictures or they are breaking the law of false advertising, only someone deadest on trashing consumer rights which stop companies from sending them pictures of items they buy instead of the actual item like scamming GPU ebay sellers would have a problem with a company actually breaking the law getting the shaft... The real issue is those laws are rarely ever enforced and companies and the people in them are so used to thinking they can run the business however they want and are untouchable.... But yeah if you didn't get your money back dispute it with the CC company and let them "ban" you from their store, me literally reading that makes it so I will never buy from them just to support you and because I would never want to be treated like that... Companies these days are negligent and the negligence spills over into stupidity to the point they will break their own rules or even the law and when the customers go on to tell others and lose them thousands of dollars in sales it's just not worth it.... The company should be taking this up with their supplier and demanding them to compensate them not sitting behind a computer trying to bully someone whose money they already how like the cowards they are. Shameful.
