Hey guys, I'm new here but anyways ...

I looking for some headphones to use and this is my first time actually getting a headphone so help me out
I eliminated all my choices to these two : the Shure SRH840 or the Audio Technica ATH-M50
So I was wondering ...which one do you guys prefer? Or which one would you recommend and why
Which one is better or are they both similar?
You can also recommend other headphones if you wish but the thing is that it has to stay around the 0-200 $ range

Thanks

I was thinking portable
I really can't say for the music since I like to listen to a wide variety but then again I do favor a good bass

Shure SRH840 sounds really good beyond their price.
I don't know about the ATH M50's but I can really recommend the Shures.

The bass on it is really good too; it's not boomy but there's plenty of it,
and it just sounds really clear and engaging.

I think anyone would like the SRH840's.

srh840's are currently my favorite phones, the slight emphasis on treble over bass is a nice change but they really aren't for portable use, the earcups down swivel so they really get in the way instead of folding flat near your upper chest like the M50's

Neither are portable phones.

Denon d1100 are good portable cans, Audio Technica ES7 as well.

I have the Shures and they really are too big to wear outside IMO.

M50's are more bearable for portable use because the earcups swivel so they lie flat against your upper chest, SRH840's don't have that same luxury making portable use very cumbersome, also, the earcups are larger as well

I for one listened to both and didn't like the 840s as much.  I was comparing K240, M50, and 840 for my personal enjoyment at the time... I liked the K240 and M50 but the 840 sounded... impersonal, clinical?  I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as the M50.  I would take the advice of someone who has owned both for a long time, though.  Better yet, try them both before buying if you can!
