I'm thinking about getting these headphones, can anyone tell me how they are?

do they require an amp or can they be easily played straight from an ipod?

I wrote an impression/review a while back if you want to read around. A lot of people have reviewed these.

Pros:
Best bass heavy headphones in the price range hands down. Better than the M50s, Sonys, etc.
Pretty clear, decent separation. Strong bass that you can feel but not muddy.
Durable. Well built.
No need for an amp from PC or from portable.
Portable (kinda).

Cons:
Uncomfortable. Some people get used to it. I did, but it still bothers me when I wear them for a long time.
Pads aren't the most comfortable.

I decided to move on to other headphones because I valued comfort a lot. I wear them for a long time (movies, TV shows, work, HW, etc) I don't have speakers so I need comfort. They're definitely a good choice though.

For some people they are, but i have used them and no comfort issues even for long periods of use. It also depends on your head shape.

Yep. You have to try them out.

The problem with them for me was a contact point on top of my head. Maybe it won't be like this for you. I know that I got used to it after a while.
