Great idea @waveSounds ... I have Sonarworks and the SRH1540 but have never used them together and tend to have the software disabled, but now I’m curious and will try that next time I’m with the SRH1540 which may be a week or so.

Does anybody here make 4.4mm balanced cable for the SRH1540?

Long time user here, still using them everyday! (in love with these cans for life I think). I got mine from lqicables. Works like a charm. I have one spare cable from surfcables but I'm from Europe so with shipping and all I think you are better off with a new one.

What's the difference between the default and 4.4mm balanced cable ?

frost15, what about my previous post ? Do you have an idea ?
Thank you

1 - The difference is you will be able to connect your 1540s to Sony balanced outputs (which DAPs such as WM1A and WM1Z have). I'm not gonna enter the discussion of the benefits of balanced vs unbalanced because it's a long, tedious topic to discuss (and there are threads on the topic already), but, for example the WM1x players from Sony use a different sound circuit for their balanced outputs, which allows, among other things, native DSD playback.
2 - I'm more than content with my alcantara stock pads so I think I can't answer your question, sorry...

I'm in the market for my first pair of decent headphones. The SRH1540 is a strong contender, as I've been very happy with my SE535s.

Any thoughts or comparisons vs Focal Elegia? I'm struggling to find a negative report of either, but looking for some insights into any nuances or differences.

Thanks!

I owned the SRH1540 and tested the Focal Elegia. I didn't end up with either but I'd say in terms of sound the Focal Elegia is a more refined product. I found the bottom end of the 1540s very boomy and loose, and whilst the detail was fantastic for a closed back, and they're mega comfy, overall they didn't do it for me at all. The Elegia's are brighter and tighter from what I remember, although I confess it was a fairly quick listen. FWIW I ended up going with the Sony MDRZ7M2, and I am grateful every day that I did. They are the best closed backs I've heard by some distance and I think they offer fantastic sonic performance. Downsides are a horribly tangly cable and lack of case, but having fixed that I've had no interest in upgrading at all.

I have 4.4mm balanced cables, from LQI cables and Surf cables, for my Sony DAP. Both cable companies stand behind their products. Both cables are excellent. Lqi is more flexible and "pretty." Both sound excellent with tight connections at both ends. I use them with my Shure SRH1540 headphones, of course. Surf cables are about $50.00 less in USD.

Two to three hour wait for car maintenance... Who really cares when you have the SRH1540 headphones!

Has anybody compared the MDR - Z1R to Shure SRH1540 headphones out of the Sony NW - WM1A?
