Dec 19, 2007 at 8:56 PM Post #256 of 391
Sent back my e500 15 days ago

and today I received a se530 box with se530 accessories and a brand new pair of e500 inside it

I m not sure that I understand why they mixed se530 box and accessories with the e500 but hey, I got free black foamies ^^

I just hope these new e500 will last

Anyone have experience with shure hong kong? I purchased a pair of second hand e500 online so I do not have proof of purchase. However, the socket has serial number 2316 indicating it is under 2 years anyway. They are only offering a reduced price to replace it or for them to repair it out of warranty. Pretty rubbish service if you ask me.

How can you distinguish between the e500 and se530?

On the plug of the earphones (not the extension cable), after the manufacturing date code, it either says "E500" or "SE530."

I honestly don't think so. They are very good to their customers when it comes to service and warranties, especially when it's something that shouldn't have happened in the first place. In fact, I would be surprised if they didn't completely replace your earphones even without a receipt.

well i just had the cable on my first pair of 530's crack, after, um 3 pairs of defective E500's . Sigh... Could have been 4 pairs defective E500's. I don't remember.

They did last a lot longer than the other pairs, almost 3 months

just sent my second pair in for the cable, except I didn't keep my invoice from the first time I sent mine in for repair. Crossing my fingers. So far, members have written the good people at Shure have replaced sets w/ dates still in warranty, no questions asked.

The warranty replacement pair I sold to my co-worker has snapped. The co-worker whom I convinced to purchase the E500 is on his 3rd replacement. Shure must be taking a hit with all these warranty replacements.

Has your friend hit you yet? Hope you gave him a good deal.

Well, I am receiving my Shure e500s today. Got them cheap on line.
Of course it was only after I bought them that I decided to see if they had any defect issues.

Well if mine breaks I'll probably just re-cable them myself.

It couldn't be much harder than the Etymotic ER-P4s I re-cabled. They actually sounded better.

But then agian, every time you send a pair back, you do get fresh ear pieces, cases, and cables. Still what a pain

BTW still compiling production date codes here

Before, no, but under Shure's new policy, if you are not the original purchaser, you may have problems. At least according to this thread:

My E500s lasted seven months. But the cable wasn't its downfall, the armature(?) on the right earpiece was its failing (snapped in two at the base of the stem). As for the cable, it was in great shape right until the bitter end.
