wait "almost HD650 like" what... HD650 like q.q let's hope some one will mod these :3. Nothing worse than "mid range" bloom imo! [the w1000x had to much of it hence is why I modded it" ahm. Either way sounds good!

I don't think so no. I modded out ALL of the mid Range Bloom from my w1000x. I also don't like tubes for that "bloom" :/ either way if the sound stage is as big as they say it's got poetential once we see what Purrin can mod it with :3

(A closed headphone that is said to be extremely comfortable as well).  I am looking for a good closed set of headphones is why I ask - just don't want to spend 5 if I can spend 2 for the same thing in a plain wrapper...

I would hope and would be confident in saying, the shure will sound better than the 770... again I've not heard the 770 b ut it's not easy to beat apprenty. Yea for the price it's good but a lot of ppl seem to find nice upgrades for it in the 400 price rnage

The DT770s are basshead cans... and not the best at it either, although very good for $120 or less...
I expect the 1540s to kick the crap out of those and compete with better closed headphones such as the Mad Dogs, Alpha Dogs, M500s, Sony MDR7520, Yamaha's MT220s, etc. etc.

Initially for $500.
Check on amazon in a few months and it will probably be closer to $400 probably (or on our "For Sale" forums in a few months I guess as well...)

guys does the 1540 have sparkling Treble? few reviews said it is relaxed yet not rolled off, i was about to get Shure940 for fun so i enjoy the Mis and the Bright Extended awesome Treble , heard it have less bass than most of the headphones so was afraid it will be less fun though,  the question is if i went to the 1540 wont i be losing Treble (Fun) and getting Bass in its place?

Thanks for the detailed response Gelocks.  Without going into too many details I am looking to upgrade my work headphones (currently Fostex T50RP and KOSS TBSE DJ1000s) to a superior sounding closed around-ear headphone with great "holographic" type sound stage and super comfortable.  From the amount of reading I have been doing lately it looks like these Shure 1540's certainly fit the bill, but at $100 less there is also the Bowers & Wilkins P7, and then go another $100 down into the $300 level and you have the PSB M4U1, the NAD Viso HP50, and the Vmoda 100 with XL Pads, and finally the example I listed at $200 is the new 32Ohm Beyer dt770.
 
So with all of those closed headphones still on my list coming in anywhere from $100 to $300 less than the new Shure is why I asked about the price value. If they were $300 I would order them now just based on Jude's review.  However at $500 I am still looking. Thanks again.

based on what did jude said i can understand that he didn't like the Treble on the 940, too Treble friendly, bright and extended , and on the 1540 it was a bit relaxed (not rolled off) kind of smoother and listenable for him, which mean it is still extended yet no as bright and kind of warmer/smoother,  so overall the kind of sparkling highs that  we seek :<

I guess your assessment is correct.
I don't think we'll have the brightness of the SRH940s on these.
 
And yes, I would have definitely preferred more bass presence on the 940s.
After I had the 940s for a while, I remember I brought the Audio technica's A900X and actually thought it had what the 940s were missing. If they were just more comfortable, I would have retired the 940s right there and then... It took the Denon D5000 AND the Sennheiser HD600s to actually begin the Shure 940 retirement from my collection.
