I am currently looking for a new set of headphones and have narrowed it down to either the shure 535 or the over ear 940.

Would the cheaper 940 sound better due to the larger drivers or can the 535 really deliver comparable sound.

I currently own the ultimate ears triple 10 and aset of Creative Auvania live.  The creatives beat the triples all round except for portability. I dont really like the triples as they have too much bass and a flat almost muffled mid range, highs are fantastic.  so would the 535s be a little better or much better han the triples.  This will help try to guage it.

Also is there anyone on here who has the auvania live or the denon 1001 and a pair of shure in ears and tell me how they compare.

thanks for any replies

Portability isnt a major issue as I mainly use my headphones at home, I use my triples at the gym once a week but sound quality isnt a major concern when I trying to give myself a hernia.

For home use 940 is better option. For portable use, 535 is much better option. For listening to music in nights while sleeping, i prefer the 535 :) Some people say that the highs in 535 are recessed and the 940s are bright but i found them not to be true in my case. Guess i am the ideal test dummy for Shure :)

x2.

Both are just different leagues. both can be compared, but it's just not gonna do justice to the IEMs

Ok thats clear enough so I will go down the route of full size headphones.

Before I go and buy the 940s does anyone have any other recommendations seeing as my budget is round 350. I still need something that can be powered by my j3 without the need for an amp

535's bass is pretty well controlled (on the light side). and the clarity and tranparency is really good. and fitting is super too (one of the big advantage of 535). But the mids sounds a little bit hollow. if you a mids fan. leave it alone.
