Let us know what you think soon.  In term of build quality, it isn't no match to the build quality of the SCD-777ES and SCD-1, but what is?  The sound is definitely nicer in my book.

Pulled the trigger on this. I would have gotten it sooner if UPS was opened for pick-ups on Saturdays.  Oh well, I have it now.  First impressions are the unit is not as heavy as I had imagined.  The disc tray feels cheap, not metal.  I guess I was comparing it to my Sony SCD-1 & SCD777es in terms of build quality.  The connections on the back looks like quality jacks.  No SACD sampler in the box. :frowning2: Unit tracks CDs & SACDs much faster than my other players.  Both unbalanced and balanced XLR are Live which I like.  I'm gonna give it some time to break-in before I make any conclusions on its sound quality.  Until then, some pics.

I'm not sure if it's in my head, but on a Hybrd SACD, the difference in sound between the CD layer and the SACD layer is very small on this player.  Gotta do some more listening.

Differences between layers on a hybrid SACD are highly disc dependent - at least as much as the player itself. Some redbook layers use the same mastering as the SACD layer, others may use an older redbook master. It would be helpful to cite the specific disc(s) used in your tests.

You keep your remotes in plastic just like me.  :)  I have the MDS-JA20es too!   Love your collection.  That 90es combo is SWEET!

LOL.  Yeah my wife says that I'm not as bad as I use to be.  When she met me, I had Saran wrap wrapped around my older remotes.  Couldn't stand the dirt and grime build up.

Well, I bought most of these ES units when I was a senior in high school (except the 90ES pair) and they're in remarkable shape today considering that they are ~ 20 years old.  Something to be said about taking care of your gear.

They just don't make em' like they used to.  Its a shame that Mr. Morita's vision died with him.

I don't know what his vision was; but, looking at E-bay listings this morning, I discovered a TA-E9000ES, as well as a TA-E90ES for sale. Other ES too, 21 pages with 50 items per page. Definitely worth a look.

I've gotta tell ya, I am very pleased with my ES system. It's hard to believe that  using my 11 year old TA-E9000ES's 24/96 DVD S/PDIF Toslink input I can enjoy computer audio through my HT system.  I'm still using over 20 year old JBL L100t3's supported by a JBL B380 sub, too.; and, it is all quite satisfying. I have no need or desire to upgrade anything in my system. Only thing I've pondered is a Sony SCD-XA5400ES, or perhaps, an Oppo 95. The Oppo would allow me to enjoy multi-channel SACD's from it's analog out jacks, sending analog to my Sony TA-P9000ES. Since I do not have an HDM preamp I could not enjoy, it appears, anything but stereo from the 5400. And, since I already enjoy stereo SACD from my DVP-S9000ES, I'm kinda leaning toward the Oppo; and, wishing Sony would come out with a competitive universal player so I could keep it all ES.

If you're deciding between a 5400ES or an OPPO 95, and prices are similar, I would go with the Oppo.  The Oppo is a true balanced design and has those Sabre32 DACs.  Sony has used XLR input/outputs in the past, but it has traditionally been of a non-balanced design including the E/N80ES as well as the E/N90ES.

I've been thinking about Oppo 95 also. Maybe I'll place an order soon so I can compare it to my Sony XA5400. I like that the Oppo has DVD-A playback.

Nice innards pics of the 9000ES.  I actually never own this particular unit and always wonder which is the better player sonic wise b/w the DVP-9000ES or 9100ES.
