Hi all! Newbie here. Audiophile 20+years,, new to high end 'phones. Have loved this forum so far, have learned so much already!
I bought an AKG K701 a few months ago, it seemed a bit thin sounding despite adequate break-in, so I brought it to a local dealer and listened on some headphone amps, thought it sounded much better on a Creek OBH-21SE, so bought that. I've liked it, but not loved it. Great imaging, so-so but acceptable bass, great detail, but just a little harsh and edgy in the mids, especially voices.
After reading a lot on this site, I wonder if I need a new tubed amp, maybe a Woo Audio WA6 or Little Dot 3? Or something else?
I don't want to break the bank, but I wonder if I could sell the Creek, would it be worth it to get a tube amp for a few hundred more? I've read about 'heaven parting, angels singing, earth shaking' etc ... and it just hasn't happened with this combo yet.
Wishful thinking, or realistic expectations?
