Share your tastes - Suggest 5 "Best Of" albums

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say "2pac - Greatest Hits''. Hehehe, this is probably one of the only best of.. albums I know of, they don't seem to make em much anymore, and so kids like me don't really know of many.

Well that's quite impressive. 2pac's dead and he's still churning out the songs.

I'm sure there could be a whole lot of speculation around that 2pac being dead thing.

I'm not sure if I posted this already, maybe I did at headwize or something. As far as hip hop goes...

Gangstarr: Full Clip
A Tribe Called Quest: Anthology

Theres a KRS-One and BDP one, but I havn't heard it. And I'm sure theres MUCH more, but none that I own right now.

Hi guys.

Here are 5 that I could not do without.

Derek and The Dominoes- Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.  Arguably the greatest rock guitar album ever. Horrible recording, tho.

Steely Dan- Can't Buy A Thrill   From start to end, sheer brilliance.

Del Amitri- Change Everything  Terrific pop/rock band that never got the recognition they deserved, imo.

Elton John- Tumbleweed Connection

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils- The Ozark Mtn. Daredevils    Country rock Just a great record.

As with everyone else, there are probably dozens more that should/could be on this  list.

Showing my age a bit. Oh, well. Can't change that. LOL

Oops. Guess it pays to read the entire title of the thread. Sorry. Ignore me. Not sure how to delete a post, so.....sorry again.

If we have to restrict ourselves to Best Of albums, which I do like as a rule, I will toss these out there. These are not my top 5. I cannot narrow any list of favorite music down to just 5 albums. These are 5 albums that are great and would give anyone a good intro to the artist if they were unfamiliar with them.

Jethro Tull - Very Best of Jethro Tull
Roxy Music - The Best of Roxy Music
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet
Return to Forever - The Anthology
Kate Bush – The Whole Story

Narrowing down to five is very hard !

My top 5 Australian Collections (in no partlcular order) ..
    Shane Howard  "Restrospect"
The Whitlams "Truth, Beauty, and a Picture of You"
    Ed Kuepper "The Butterfly Net"
    Cruel Sea "The Most"
Mondo Rock "up to the Moment"

My Top 5 non-Australian collections (although I think a couple may be Australia only releases)
    The Pretenders "Singles"
Little Feat "As Time Goes By"
    Dire Straits "Sultans of Swing"
Deep Purple "Mark I and II"
    Tracy Chapman "Collection"

Many artists work better on individual albums than they do on disjointed collections.  Here are 5 artists/groups not included in the above because they have individual albums which eclipse any of their collection albums
Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"
    Steely Dan "Aja"
    Crowded House "woodface"
    Beatles "Abbey Road"
    Fleetwood Mac "Tusk"
    Paul Simon "Graceland"
    Supertramp "Crime of the century"
    :
    :
Oops, hard to stop that line of thought !

Gday!

I stick my tongue out at your 5 album limit
biggrin.gif

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
Tool - Aenima
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Wes Montgommery - Smokin' at the Half Note
Ry Cooder and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt - A Meeting by the River
Serious Beak - Huxwhukw
Meshuggah - Destroy Erase Improve
Jamiroquai - The Return of the Space Cowbow
Beethoven's 5th - no idea what version it is I have
Tchaikovski (no idea how to spell it) - 90th Symphony - whatever album it is I have

Funny - can't help but notice there's no modern music listed yet.  I suppose that's because the people who are actually falling in love with music at the moment have no interest in the quality of the equipment they're using, or arguing about weather or not compilation albums should be included in an internet poll
