Thanks again for this post. You have been very helpful.I've been able to spend time with most of these too myself and will leave a comment here.
Any specific characteristics you are looking for in the DAP?
For the DnB, definitely M9 Plus out of the bunch for me, as it is the warmest sounding with the most bass quantity. Staging is also extremely large with good transients, with only DX320 Max Ti sounding bigger and slightly more technically accurate, but not as warm or bass heavy.
....
DX320 Max Ti leans slightly warm with extremely good technicalities and pretty much faultless in the sonic department.
RS8 personally just felt inferior in all ways It definitely wasn't my thing, and I find it to be slightly bright analytical sounding, yet the technicalities were still behind others like the DX320 Max Ti.
Unfortunately I don't have much memory of N8ii even though I've tried it a few times.
...
Tldr : M9 Plusin both sonics and usability, while also pumping out crazy power with extra turbo mode. The most underrated flagship DAP without a doubt in my mind and I would take this over any other I've tried (as I have).
Don't blame ya for picking the DX320 MAX Ti. Definitely one of, if not, the best there is. I would love one if the weight and size was slightly smaller. The UI sucks but oh well I can live with it.Thanks again for this post. You have been very helpful.
I went back to look at it after getting in some good amount of time with these players. You have very good ears and it turns out my ears are better than I thought they are. Going on I thought the RS8 was going to be the one to be at the top. And I thought the N8ii would be in the top 3.
I really liked the M9 Plus a lot and I would have bought it but in three end I walked out of the shop with the beastly sized DX320 MAX Ti. Multiple little factors led me to this decision, one of which is the limited number made available, but I would without any hesitation recommend the M9 Plus over any of the other DAPs and when all of the limited edition MAX Ti are sold, I would name the M9 Plus the king of DAPs, or at least until Shanling comes out with The M10.
100%.Don't blame ya for picking the DX320 MAX Ti. Definitely one of, if not, the best there is. I would love one if the weight and size was slightly smaller. The UI sucks but oh well I can live with it.
M9 Plus is easily top tier though!
Unfortunately the DX320 MAX Ti isn't something I can fit into my pocket and walk around with comfortably100%.
And one of the other factors is that I have high tolerance for size and weight but if this was an important one for me than I would be a part of this family now. Butt I'll stay tuned here because it'll be that "other one" that will longer in the back of my mind for a while.
I don't care what people think... I use a fanny pack.Unfortunately the DX320 MAX Ti isn't something I can fit into my pocket and walk around with comfortably![]()
I don't think anybody got to even test that so far, sorry.
Circling back on this @Shanling. The issue still persists on both my M9 and M9+. It will connect only on aptx HD on Bluetooth even though I have LDAC codec switched in audio options for BT.
Previously LDAC worked seamlessly with the Shanling ET-3. It seems to have that issue with other devices too.
Now even when I force the M9+ to go onto LDAC, the output bit rate is still not as selected. Hence it appears that the M9 and M9+ seems to be ones to be having some issues.
Some guidance would be appreciated. It has been a month since I first raised this issue. Thanks!

Sigh... no issues. It is just so irritating that it happened to both my M9 and M9+ at the same time. I am reluctant to do a factory reset because I would lose ALL my downloads in my SD card from the various streaming apps, cos they would no longer be recognised as I would have to set up all the apps from scratch and the previous authorisations would be lost.I'm sorry, but this is issue we are unable to replicate.
Just tested M9 Plus(Firmware V1.13), with H5, ET3 and Onix XP10, each of them showing correctly LDAC connection without any issues.
You mention "forcing M9+ into LDAC", please how exactly are you doing this?
Yeah, the factory reset would be the easiest thing to try normally, but I understand it can be not ideal.Sigh... no issues. What happened is the M9+ showed up as aptx HD. I went into the BT codec section where LDAC had been chosen. Then I selected Aptx HD and then LDAC again. Thats where you will see the M9+ screen showing LDAC, and the BT receiver showing LDAC but at 44.1Khz which of cos is not LDAC since I had selected LDAC at highest resolution.

@Shanling I have plenty of DAPs and other BT receivers in the house... including Shanling ones... if the M9 and M9+ doesn't display LDAC at source even where I have chosen LDAC, it tells you something is wrong, right? I even did a few resets of the BT settings under reset...Yeah, the factory reset would be the easiest thing to try normally, but I understand it can be not ideal.
When you go to Jaben, can you test your M9 with some other Bluetooth receivers in their shop?

And this only started happening when I first raised it. Previously no issues at all.
In any event, I might sacrifice the M9 for the factory reset. And see if it works. In any event I will likely have to send the M9 back since the inset screen has stopped working despite taking all the measures you had set out in the M9 thread.
Such a pity cos the M9 and M9+ were hitherto most robust and represented to me the excellent turnaround from the issues we all went through together with the M8. And you know I am not a troll @Shanling considering the number of Shanling gear I have and am not afraid to say I enjoy.![]()

Will do in respect of the secondary screen. Will wait to see about what it involves and costs for a good friend here who has the same issue arise around the same time.As this is a software issue and not shared by other users, the factory reset on your units would be the easiest likely solution.
Sorry to hear about the secondary screen. Definitely reach out to Jaben, this is something we can fix for you.
