Good morning... How was the M9 plus compared to the fiio M15s? If possible, you can respond privately. I purchased the M15s, I have a lot of big cans, I need a powerful dap...
M15s in terms of power suits me, but I'm curious how much better Shanling M9 plus would be... M15s plays on a HE6SEV2 note on a note from 1 to 10, note 08.

I don't have an M15 to compare but knowing planar headphones and my experiences with them, you're much better off adding an amp, whether that be portable or not, instead of upgrading DAP in this case. That being said, M9 Plus is!

No. I have some random rubber dust plugs from Taobao, but never used them.

Thanks @Shanling . Does it fix that curious issue I was having where I can’t use LDAC with the ET3? Cos the M9 and M9+ work beautifully on LDAC with the Sony DMP Z1… I was using them this week with the DMP.

Sadly no. Just tried. Ironically, I am using Sony 1AM2 and iBasso DX320 to stream LDAC to the ET3….

No worries @Shanling . It’s just very perplexing. Because, as you can tell from what I tried, the LDAC obviously works. Just not with the ET3. And the ET3 LDAC works too. With other brand DAPs…

How close are TOTL DAPs to desktop systems These days?

I’m interested in people’s thoughts/experiences here.

For example, if we take an M9 Plus, pair it with an appropriate headphone or IEM, how close to good/excellent desk top systems can it be?

I’m predominantly interested around sound quality here. Of course, replace the M9 Plus above with other relevant TOTL DAPs.

Are there people out there with great DAP/portable setups and completely happy and not feel the need for a desktop system?

I’m very curious about peoples opinions on the above

With IEMs, it really gets to a point where the difference between going from a TOTL portable option to a desktop system might not be as justified for most. Not to say there isn't a noticeable difference, but at the same time most probably can't justify the performance gain for IEMs especially given the main selling characteristic of IEMs is portability.

Headphones however are a completely different situation where there is still significant improves to be made going from TOTL portable sources to even average mid-tier desktop sources.
