I agree, if you want the best battery life, then a Dap with portable (non-desktop) chips would be better...

But so far, the manufacturer trend, is following both demand and general consensus(big chips), and that the portable chips are still not really at the sonic level of the desktop chips.

Also, the Fiio M15 has a very good battery life, 2nd only the the Sony signature line. With an AK4499 DAC, dual pieces actually. So it is not only about the DAC but its implementation.

Of course that 4499 is hungry, I'm aware.

There's not much info but probably will be released in a couple of months or late fall. I suppose it will cost about 1.500-2.000$€ or even more, no idea. It has the same dual DAC but updated SoC, AMOLED display, Android 10 and maybe new AMP section. From the teaser images it looks taller but thinner than the M8, so I assume this time there's no replaceable sockets.

The RS6, which was announced around the same time, is already close to shipping, and yet we don't have so much as a final colour or spec list on the M9. It's almost as if Shanling wanted us to know it's coming so we don't buy any other DAP in the meantime, but are nowhere close to finishing it**. Strange indeed.

Def interested in the m9. Was eyeing a m8, but best hold off as there are so many new daps coming out.
