Shanling M8 Android Portable player

It shouldn't get so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold for a minute or two. However, I've found that it does get very warm, almost unusually warm, especially when using low sensitivity headphones or IEM's. Those will make it unusually warm, and that is fine. The way Shanling designed the M8, it is made to use the back panel of the device as a heatsink to protect the components.

I noticed that the player gets really hot when using the 4.4 balanced output, is that a normal condition? Never happens when I use 3.5 mm and the battery doesn't drain faster either.
Yeah, that's normal, it gets hot. In fact I dont even use the leather case anymore because with the case it gets too hot. Sometimes it even shuts down because it over heats with the leather case on.

EDIT: Want to clarify: it gets hot and shuts down when I have it inside my 'inside' winter coat pocket. It does not shut down with case when its not in my pocket.

When running balanced, you are using it at its full capabilities, so it gets hotter than when using 3.5mm and of course the battery also goes faster.

And yes, all our high-end players runs quite warm. We have power demanding, heat producing audiophile components and the frame is being used as heatsink for them. Same applies for M8, M9 and upcoming M7 will be the same.

You need to pull down to the notifications tray and tap the "Charging this device". There you can select File transfer.
it is as that simple, did you find it @Dj12inch?

Hi guys, just got my M8 for 2 weeks and still so much enjoy this magnificent sound, but i'm having this issue. When leave the gear unheard for a period of time, usually overnight or 8 hours, then the right channel has no sound. It happens immediately when I start to play, only the left channel works.
So what I do is keep the song playing, switch PO => LO => PO and everything is fine again.
Not so big of an annoyance but switch from PO => LO when song is playing always end up with a huge "POP" or "CRACK" sound that I fear it might hurt the drivers in long term.
I'm on the latest FW 1.61 FYI, is it a known issue? Any suggestions?
Thank you.

indeed it is very strange. I have m8 for 1 year and I never had this issue. which output do you use? 4.4, 2.5,3.5? have you tried changing Jack connectors to see if the issue is still there ?

I'm using the 4.4, try to switch to 3.5 and it's working fine, dont have the 2.5 jack to try now.
Also I'm the 3rd owner of the dap, previous 2 had this issue as well but only after playing in turbo mode for a while, M8 gets hot.
First I thought it was my cable but the 3.5 cable works fine so I think its the FW or the chips or amp because M8 works flawlessly again after PO LO switching.

Thanks, did the factory reset but sadly right channel still mutes.
If it shows only on the 4.4mm and 3.5mm works fine, it might be issue in the module. Would be best to test it with 2.5mm, to know if the issue would repeat.

Thinking about going to the M8 from M6 Pro AKM version. Anyone tried both? I actually love the M6P matched with Westone ES60. This is the only IEM I use it with DAPs. I want to make sure the synergy is similar from the M6P to the M8.

M8 would be quite a bit warmer than the M6 Pro.
I think maybe the new M7 would be better follow up to the M6 pro.
