Tidal unfolding and Turbo Gain combined with balanced out listening are making M8 drink like a Ferrari indeed but also sound superb...
WiFi off and Bluetooth off will have a significant impact on battery savings too.
So it's a balance one needs to find
Hi, I just got my M8 and the sound with Focal Utopias is stunning. However, I'm streaming Tidal and the battery drains very quickly. I've read only glowing reviews of the battery life, but mine drops a percentage point every few minutes. Is this normal with streaming? Does it last longer if I'm playing music from an SD card? Appreciate any info.
Well maybe I have a fable for power hungry DACs, currently listening on W2 and that thing bangs highly over its price point but is emptying your mobile phone's battery even quicker than M8.
My old DX Max was also not less power hungry.
Only decent performer I remember was DX300 which I returned 2 times in favor of M8.
Don't forget there are dual desktop class DACs running in M8...
It lasts as long as SE200 does, if you use UAPP w/Tidal integration. I never noticed anything too off. But I never really used Tidal's actual app either. Its sound was soft and flabby to me, so I passed. ymmv though.

That doesn’t side step mqa’s cpu overhead when unfolding, which is what causes the additional drain and heat and subsequently more drain vs. any other format. And why dacs are starting to embed hw unfolding to conserve battery. Like ess9068as.
