Shanling M8 Android Portable player

Yes really high 1 Ohm or 2 Ohm lol
Compare to other DAPS
Around 0,5 balanced is kind of standard in TOTL DAPs today and for Andromedas that's best but in other cases like MEST Shanling might suit better.
And yes, 2 Ohms is nothing compared to some full size tube amps for example but for sensitive IEMs it can mean a world
For example I returned AK SR25 because it was lacking bass and body on my Andro Golds...
With MEST I might try different pairings now.
With the full size Denons this whole discussion doesn't matter anyway

What earphones and cable are you using?

When I had both DX300 and M8, just Andromeda 2020. Tried with M8 only: Legend X, Andromeda 2020, U12T, Blessing 2: Dusk. Cables are the default ones they come with. Last year I tried the Lotoo PAW S1 with the Legend X and from memory, I enjoyed using Legend X with that more.

I'm thinking my next conquest will be a MEST mkII custom....

Thanks for your responses guys.

Yes mine looks fine (see photos). And I think the 4.4 socket sticks out maybe 1mm more than SE (see photos, the one with pink hairbrush is 4.4 socket)....

I’ve tried a (12 second press) reboot which seemed to work at first, but then changing sockets again to take the pics I did another reboot and sound DIDN’T occur when I tried playing music again.

But, after some experimentation, I MAY now have found a way around this issue. It seems to be ok if I CLOSE/KILL whichever app I’m using completely and plug in the cable BEFORE I then re-open said app. It’s worked with both UAPP and Tidal when I’ve tried it just now. Whether this continues to work for me is still to be seen.

What is still annoying though is I played an album this morning fine, then came to select a new album and no sound again (after it appeared to be working fine!). I’m assuming if that happens again I’ll just need to kill the app and reload it. If that’s all I need to do then I guess I’ll have to live with that, but a fix from @Shanling would be great!

Note, this only appears to be an issue with 4.4 and not 3.5 SE. I’ve not tried the other sockets as don’t have the relevant cables.

FURTHER UPDATE:

Simply killing the app isn’t enough it seems. I literally need to kill the app, unplug the cable and plug back in, then restart the app. Frustrated to say the least!!
Hi, try a hard reset.

Do you like the MEST/have you auditioned the mkii universal? MEST mk1/mk2 would be great to go custom with it, but definitely want to make sure you like the sound signature first before making the commitment

Yes, I was one of the first to review the MEST here, as part of the review tour. I was lucky to be one of the first ones to review it back when no one was even aware of it. It didn't hit big till about 6 months after it was released. I gave it 5 stars.....

Oh didn't know that, yeah I'd say go for it!

I don’t know, I see you loving the Legend X.

MEST might be good alternative imo

Yes indeed, just sold my MEST, if I didn’t want to come up with the extra $500, or couldn’t find a used LX it is a solid option.

Oops meant to say potential complement. I did find the MEST more detailed and neutral than the LX. Definitely different sounding at least with the original MEST

Thanks what a 12 second power press is right?
No it isn't right.

Here the manipulation.

Be careful, it will reset/wipe all and your dap will be as fresh as beginning. After first boot don't forget to update first.

How to enter Android Recovery menu?

If you will be facing some system breaking issues, it’s always possible fix them with help of Android Recovery menu.

1. Turn off player.

2. Hold down volume wheel and top left button at the same time, hold until Shanling logo appears. If performed successfully, image of green robot and “No command” text will appear.

3. Hold down volume wheel and while holding it down, turn it one step clockwise.

4. Now you entered Android Recovery menu. Use volume wheel up/down to go through menu and press volume wheel to confirm. Wipe data/Factory reset option can be found in the middle.

When green robot and menu appear, I stop pressing left top and power button, then the screen goes blank...?
