Shanling M6 Ultra - 4x AKM AK4493S DAC, Snapdragon 665, Android 10 DAP

????

You do realize that with bluetooth you are bypassing both the DAC and the amp and just using the DAP as a transport (and using the DAC and amp from the car). Your phone will work just as well and sound exactly the same (if using the same BT codec).
That's like saying all BT headphones sound the same.

Different BT implementations, bt chips, boards, antennas, parts and/or devices can affect output quality.

I was verifing that this new device sounded similar or better to what it was replacing. Especially given the Wifi issues.

My old Granbeat DP-CMX1 sounded noticble different than my Onkyo DP-X1A over BT in the same car, same app, same song. IMHO.

The M11 Plus ESS, Hiby R5 Saber and M6 Ultra are very similar sounding in a quick test.

You can' got wrong with the
Fiio M11 plus ESS, it a solid, great sounding device with good features. Plus, it's cheaper than the M6 Ultra.

It's hard to say at this point.
Oh I sold my M11 plus ess to get some money to buy M6 ultra.

Whoa, the USB-C Ethernet adapter works with the Shanling M6 Ultra. A full 552 Mbps! :grinning:

However, It didn't work with my OG Fiio M11 (Android 7) or Hiby R5 Saber (Android 8.1.0).

How is the rotary volume knob. Is it sturdy. Does it seem to adjust the volume with precision. Does it click as you adjust or it is smooth. Thanks.

It clicks, one click is one volume step.

I would'nt call it sturdy. It feels a bit loose under the finger, maybe it's the thicknes of the knob. It spins quite fast and clicks. Not much resistance.

I've already had to disable it (when the screen is off) due to the volume level changing while i drive.

Hopefully a case will solve this.

Pluggables USB-C-E1000 Ethernet adapter works with the Hiby R5 Saber (Andriod 8.1) if anyone cares. I only got around 140 Mbps max on the R5. It didn't work with Fiio M11 (Andriod 7)

It also works with the Shanling M6 Ultra but would only go to 165 Mbps max, unlike the UNI adapter which gives full speed. Weird. Pluggables adapter is based on the Asix AX88179 chip.

I have more adapters coming for testing.

It would be nice to know how the four AKM chips in this unit are implemented apart from official comment that it’s a design used in old Shanling CD players
What exact details would you like to hear?
