What sucks about the Noir is they only include a 6ft cable which is way too long for me. And the fact that they ship April is making me consider the Neos instead.

Do you guys think that the Classics is worth $100 more than the Neos, sound-quality wise? I mean is the difference stark?

I have the Classics and also have tried the Neos ... I prefer the sound of the Classics .. one of the best closed headphones I have in my collection. If you can afford to spend the extra $100, it is well worth the money.

I agree totally, I want the playlist to play the tracks in the order I add them to the playlist and not alphabetically. I would like to see this fixed on the M0 in the future.

@Shanling, you said awhile ago that Canadian dealers would be carrying the M5S. I still can't find it anywhere in Canada, can you get any time frame for availability from the Canadian distributor? I have been budgeting to get the M5S and would like to check it out before I consider purchasing one.

No M5s was shipped to Canada so far.

@Shanling

Found a glitch. When in the Albums menu and selecting a song with no album, nothing appears in the little sub-menu at all, just a blank screen.

Tried to replicate your problem, but if I remove album tag from file, it simply shows under Unknown Album and can normally play it.

Please send me such file you found problematic.

To get the most out of the M5s, I feel like it’s really worth it to use the balanced outs. The fact that the closed back Classics and Neo can be run balanced is not as common in their price range. Meze makes a nice 1.3m balanced cable but 3rd party ones are also available.

@Shanling

A dynamic normalizer would be an amazing addition to an already amazing player. Also, pleeeeeeeeeease add a Recently Added feature as well (filled with recently synced songs), like the M0 has.

Those two additions would make me and many others even happier owners. :smile_phones:

To tell you the truth, the whole balanced thing exploded when I was absent from Head-fi, so I know next to nothing about it.

I second this request. Also please add the option to sort items in folder view, by recently added or date. I have 100's of albums on my 512gb SD card, and alphabetical only sorting is limiting. Maybe I missed a setting somewhere.

Great work on the quickness of the device. I owned a m3s once, and this newer OS is quite an improvement.

Not sure if I have a faulty unit, but I sometimes hear clicking from my DAP when powering it on and doing other random tasks...Is it just mine?

I hear ya. Well, the primary benefit is supposed to be more power but I find that any device sounds better when i use the type of connector that is native to the design of the device. In this case, it’s the balanced port.

Also, and I can’t explain the science of it, really nice headphones like the Elex prefer a balanced input signal.

That is relays inside M5s. Every unit does it.

Any DAC listed in "Link below" will pretty much make the M5s sound ok at best, but it does pack some great features! Better chips, more power, tubes, things like that.
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/king-of-daps.895618/

If the M5s sounds "ok at best", what would you call the soundquality of your gym-player comparing to the "highend daps? Im currently using the M0 coming from an AK70 MKII (7x the price of the M0) i dont miss anything. There are small nuances between these two players in the sound signature.

The M0 sounds "very good" to my ears. The AK70 also sounded "very good" to my ears. Im only speaking of SQ. Not power etc.

Best way to answer this is a scale from 1-10.
Now remember that sound is subjective as everyone has different likings to their taste.

Ipod - 4.5/10
Hiby R3 - 5/10
Shanling M0 - 6/10
Hiby R6 - 7/10
Shanling M5s - 7.5/10
Cayin N8/ - 9/10

We’re talking in terms of detail+balanced low/mid/highs+clean & meaty bass(tubes are amazing)+soundstage+authenticity of instruments+voice clarity+Distinction of sound+melody+gain+distortion

All of the above mentioned together sort of create a full experience. I’m not saying I’m the most distinctive listener, but when you can hear the differences it’s quite euphoric.

Of course having the right gear (music source and earphones) plays a key part in this. I find that some devices have better EQ’s built in them. People aren’t paying this much for just power, believe that. With that said I listen to my m5s the most as my daily driver because i think its the complete package (best value to cost), but my N8 is really a treat, so it’s treated that way :)

Added in the Hiby’s, but what I noticed is Hiby and Shanling have their distinctive sounds. You like one or the other. Hibys sound more detailed, but lack fun imo. Could be the drivers, music genre, or how they convert digital to audio sound, I’m not sure.
