Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

@Shanling

Hello everyone,

My M3X has been working perfectly since I bought it at launch, but recently it stopped functioning.
Here are the symptoms:

* The battery was depleted, so I charged it. When I plugged it in, I saw the M3X logo and the battery indicator charging (with the red LED on the side).
However, pressing the wheel once to check the charge doesn’t work (but when unplugging it, I do see, for a brief moment, the battery indicator indicating 100%, as expected).

* After unplugging it, I tried to boot the device by pressing the wheel, but nothing happens (no LED either).

* I also tried to enter factory mode (or whatever it’s called) by pressing the wheel and the upper button on the side for a long time, but nothing happened.

--> I suspect the switch in the wheel might be broken 🧐 (?).

Could you, please, give me some advice on this? How can I fix it (spare part + DIY)?

Thanks!

there is a picture here where you can see the insides of the m3x. looks fairly easy to replace that part if that's really what is problematic. you can check aliexpress for replacement parts

Thanks @Ferdze.

I first would like to have confirmation about the issue I experienced, from @Shanling, before ordering spare parts.

Do you think the wheel is the culprit?

Speaking of spare parts, if I am not wrong I can order from https://www.linsoul.com/, is that correct?

have you tried leaving it to charge for a while? don't hope to much about linsoul. i tried ordering from them and they said they do not sell parts anymore being the m3x an old device

Good to know for Linsoul, my bad...

Yes indeed, it is now at full charge.
I can see it only when I plug in the charger, for a brief moment it appears and says '100%'.

But as explained, I can't wake up the device anymore, neither I can boot it.

It didn't work. Apparently, Poweramp somehow “bypasses” the M3X amplifiers

That seems very unlikely or maybe even impossible..

Are you sure you have been through all the settings in the app ?

Is there perhaps a master volume that is turned down ?

saw a reference to this ..... settings/audio/advanced tweaks/volume levels

«saw a reference to this ..... settings/audio/advanced tweaks/volume levels» — Thanks, that doesn't help. This setting only changes the gradation.

The problem is solved in the settings Audio - Direct Volume Control (DVC) - Enablt Direct Volume Control - Off. When the button was on, it significantly reduced the volume.

I also installed a Hiby player. It seems to play less well than Shanling. Although, this may be a psychological moment.

If you don't mind tinkering, you can try opening the unit and manually bridging the switch using something conductive (a wire, or a paper clip).

Hold it there for a while. If it boots, the switch in the rotary encoder is to blame.

If you are lucky it's a standard encoder that you can buy a replacement for. That's assuming you can re-use the knob from the old one.

Indeed, I can try that then.

Thanks @vext01.

So it was a simple setting problem.

Here seems to be the culprit.

I sent a message to Linsoul to see if they have spare parts.

Heads-up:
Got a reply from Linsoul: "We regret to inform you that we have recently been notified that we no longer carry Shanling accessories." My bad.

@Shanling Is there still any chance to get that spare part somewhere?
We are trying to setup new system for spare parts, not yet sure when it will be ready.

Thanks @Shanling.

After further investigation from a friend of mine who is engineer, it appears that the switch is fine, and when pressing on it, the signal is sent to the circuitry.

The issue seems to be more complex, and basically not really fixable I guess.
