Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Hello,

How can I force other launcher? I have installed Nova Launcher and set it as a default launcher app, but each restart Shanling goes back to factory launcher as a default one.

Additionally, I have found that I do not have gapless in HiBy Music app. However, I do in foobar2000.
How is this gapless situation in M3x?

Overall still it's a really nice DAP but if my issues are fixed that would be 10/10 daily music source.

No way to force other launchers, it's blocked in our system.

I'm testing Hiby V4.1.2 and gapless works without issue. Please check if you have it enabled in settings.

For gapless in Shanling Music app, we still hope to have it implemented in the future.

I got my M3X just over a week ago. A bit of a learning curve (stepping up from a Sony NW-A55), but in general really like the DAP. Most of my frustrations were around the default player app. So many strange UI problems and odd choices. I saw several recommendations for UAPP so I tried it out this morning. Wow! What a world of difference. This is the user interface I expected. So very nice. Best $7.99 I've spent in a while.

The only problem I have now is using it as a USB DAC. It will work for a few seconds and then the device hard crashes - have to hold the power button down for 12 seconds to reboot. Happens from multiple laptops on different OSes, so pretty sure it's a M3X isue. Not a huge drawback for me personally as that's not really what I bought the device for. But it would be nice to have that available.

Please, are you running latest V1.61 firmware? https://en.shanling.com/article-AndroUpdate0122.html

Did you tested it with Windows or only Mac and Linux?

Guys or @Shanling please could you help? I downloaded the Eddict Player from app store to my iphone 13. I want to control my M3X with my iphone. I connected them via bluetooth and selected “player side” from synclink for the player. Then on my iphone, i selected m3x player from the synclink menu. Nothing happens. I can’t see my library on my iphone neither can I remotely control my m3x player. Am I doing something wrong or iphones are still not supporting this feature?

I tested it on iPhone 12, having no issue. Did you do the Music scan after they connected?

I do have the v1.61 firmware. Did not test on Windows, but I did just try on Android, and the M3X crashes on that too.

Try factory reset and see if it does with the fresh system. If yes, please contact your seller for warranty, as it might be some issue on USB port.

Has this ever been fixed?

There was improvement for this in firmware V1.5 and further in V1.63

I thought 1.61 was the latest? Is this a new firmware that will be released soon?
Sorry, V1.61 is the latest. I have too many firmware numbers running through my head.

I installed foobar2000 for android and it works perfectly with standard headphones, but it can't be heard on bluetooth devices? What can be wrong?

Is the issue only with Foobar? Other 3rd party apps working fine with Bluetooth?

I did factory reset the M3X and tried to use it as a USB DAC on Macos. It worked for about a minute or two, then the audio disconnected and the M3X crashed hard. I had to hold the power button for 12 seconds. This is exactly what happened every time. It is on build number 1.61. Factory reset and no other settings changed or apps installed.

One thing, what cable are you using? running USB-C to USB-C? Could you maybe try some simple USB-A cable via adapter or USB dock?

After receiving my M3X yesterday (after patiently waiting 25 days for delivery...) I excitedly transferred my 1Tb Micro SD card into the player, waited to index my music collection (30,000+ tracks), connected my new (refurbished) Sony MDR-1AM2's (with the balanced cable) and hit play. Sounded great until I told myself "Oh, I need to select Gapless Playback" since many of my recordings (even those recorded in-studio) transition instantly between tracks. After a few minutes of poking through the settings, I blamed myself for not being able to find the gapless playback setting and finally Googled it. And believe me, all of my excitement for the new player came crashing-down when the only results I found were from this forum and it consisted of "doesn't support gapless playback." Adding to the disappointment was the fact that I was coming from the Shanling Q1 entry-level player that HAD gapless playback. Even adding more to the frustration was the UI of the Shanling M3X's player UI. I just couldn't figure-out all of the basic functions I was used to. Also, for some reason, alphabetized lists were not appearing in alphabetical order ("Handel" listed before AND AFTER "Vivaldi" in the same list - What?) I was considering returning the player when I searched this forum once more and found posts referring to the Musicolet app (after trying another app which was not that great.) Installed the APK, indexed my collection again, and WOW. Musicolet is absolutely amazing. Gapless playback as the DEFAULT and no silly ramping-up/down of the volume when switching tracks. Much better (and simpler) UI with a single icon bar along the bottom, and accurate alphabetized listings. It basically turned a sad experience (and return) into an absolute godsend. With the Shanling player UI, I was constantly confused and frustrated moving between screens. I was effortlessly moving between screens in Musicolet because it was all very "natural." And I cannot believe that it was free. I cannot endorse it enough. So anyone who is looking for a fantastic music player app for the M3X should absolutely give Musicolet a try. I cannot think of a single drawback. And honestly, when the manufacturer of a hires player says for months "We are still working on gapless playback" it is truly unacceptable, especially since your 3+ year old low-end player has always had the feature. I hope this post helps others...

I can confirm, Musicolet is very nice music player app, I'm running it as main player on my phone.
