Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Hey do the m3x have a standby or sleep mode? @Shanling
To same degree as any other Android device. There is no special custom sleep mode, but you can just leave it turned on and if there isn't any sneaky app running in background, you are getting just little battery loss.

Really intrigued about this as a more portable alternative to my M8. What is the battery life on balanced? Is the SQ (particularly the bass) up to Shanling's usual lofty standards?

Don't know if you've seen it, but the first review is up and it looks promising. M3X review

You need to put your Playlist into the Playlist folder of Shanling app.
On internal memory - "shanlingApp" - "Playlist". Just copy your m3u playlist there and then in the Shanling music app go to playlists and click on the Import playlist icon(second from left).

Please make sure that you have your playlist formatted correctly. Best to create one playlists in the app, export it and copy its structure for your other playlists.
When @Shanling is going to include Recently Added as a internal playlist. I think the mo has it

So it appears Shanling won't have to worry about competition from Fiio any time soon in the mid-tier market. The M9 is discontinued and no replacement planned for quite awhile. In fact Fiio's mid-tier DAP's are all in limbo likely for some time. So a great time to release the M3X and any other planned models. Grab as much market as you can while Fiio is in disarray likely for all or most of 2021.

Did they all use some form of AKM chip?

Great feedback there. Are you still experiencing distortion on the 3.5mm output or has this gone away?
Thanks! I need to contact Shanling about it but I'm guessing the single DAC mode uses just one of the dual DAC chips, which the Schiit Magnius also did for its SE, which measures worse than its balanced out. Not sure if it is the case but it does sound like it. Fortunately the M3X is flexible enough to let you get the benefit of high gain and both DAC chips, which doesn't bother me in my casual listening with my unit. Still gonna reach out to them about it, of course.

It's correct, only one DAC from the SE connection.

Makes sense. Do you know if the dual DAC option in the notifications bar actually works in SE? Turning it on seems to make a difference but I haven't tested it out, to be sure placebo effect isn't at play.

Yes, it is possible to enable Dual DAC in the SE Ouput which is why Shanling lists 3 levels of expected battery life...... SE, SE Dual DAC, and Bal...

Oh duh, I forgot about that, my bad. It's been a long week. Balanced is effectively Dual DAC + High Gain, right?

Kind of... Balanceed will give you higher gain and within that, you should be able to select between high gain and low gain. So to get the full 245mw you need to be plugged into the Balanced out and high gain selected.
