Shanling M3

@Shanling and everyone else

I have a problem on my M3 with channel balance.

Test setup:
I have tested my M3 with three headphones : My Focal "Spirit One", my Sennheiser "HD595", and my friend's Philips "Fidelio L2".

All my music library is composed with flac files only, going from 16bits 44khz to 24bits 192khz.

The problem:
On all music with the three headphones listed above, channel balance is not right.
I have to set channel balance to "R4" to make it play music correctly centered.
The curious part is when I play with channel balance setup : when I put more on the left sound goes to the left... But when put more more on the right the sound does not go to the right as much it goes to the left and it seems it does not only affect balance but also sound signature ( does it make sense ? )

So, does anyone here is like me obliged to play with balance setting to have a correctly centered sound?
I have never experienced this on other DAP but I never have or tested a dual mono designed DAP before: does this problem exist for anyone on M3? Is it also a problem that exist on other dual-mono DAPs?

@Shanling : can you please help? Do you think I have a faulty device ?

Regards

If the music files is not changed (special setting?) during the composing, and all the headphones works well on other sound sources, I supposed that your device might be faulty.

We did not have the problem with our testing. Could you please test and locate the problem?

Hi,

Today I have good news:

After trying to fix the issue by swapping headphones, sdcard, multiple reboot and factory reset with no success... I have solve the problem by just switching my m3 from low-gain to high-gain!
The most curious part is now when I switch back to low gain again the problem does not reappear.

So because I'm now fully unable to reproduce the issue I consider this problem solved.

Regards

Just listened to the Empire Ears Apollo 10-BA IEM last night with a few DAPs. The M3 was by far my favorite pairing. Such a nice spacious, detailed listen without being bright or overbearing. A real pleasure to listen to!

Hi, yes the m3 is a pleasure to listen. There's a lot of details, but it is never too bright. Bass extension is also very good.
Now for the con's : sound could have a little more body, sometimes it's on the thin side. And sometimes the m3 seems to suffer on performance : when you skip between songs the beginning of the next one make weird noises ( like a jump on an old vinyl ).
Can't wait to see M5...

Haven't heard the issue with skipping songs. Do you have different resolution songs on your card? If so, can you try intentionally skipping between them and see if you can replicate this. I know this is an issue with some DAPs.

You'd like fuller, even more analog sound? Maybe M5 will deliver on that for us...

Yes, I have different resolution songs ( from 44/16 to 192/24 ). Will try to see if it happens only on biggest resolution or if it happens when switching between them.

And yes I'd like a fuller sound, but not too much. I don't want it to be too much round or analog. The m3 lacks only a little body.

Hi,
New M3 user, quite impressed with the sq having used the DX80, as far as my ears are concerned, they are equally good with the M3 a little more mellow and the DX80 a bit sharper, I tried to connect the coaxial out to the Mojo but it did not work, I can, however, connect them via the optical output, I thought that both optical and coaxial output are possible with the M3, grateful for some user experience.
