Shanling M0 Pro - Ultra-Portable Hi-Fi Player, Now With Balanced Output!

Jul 29, 2024 at 4:24 AM Post #888 of 986
Hi Shanling M0 Pro fans! I made a long reference-type thread with many requests I have for this player that would make an already great device even that much better!
While it's a long and extensive thread, I wanted it there for reference for either Shanling or maybe even potential Rockbox developers to reference! And so that it does not get lost in this long main thread. :)

I have a strange problem with my m0 Pro - when moving the player, the music turns off, as if a pause is pressed. The player plays, just turn it vertically and the music pauses. When it is lying down it works smoothly. I checked different memory cards - same thing, soft from 1.4, through 1.5 to 1.6 - same thing. So I'm betting it's a hardware fault.
Has anyone had a similar problem with the m0 Pro?

Can be hardware issue, some loose component inside maybe.

If your unit is within warranty period, please reach out to your seller.

Thank you for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, it is out of warranty, the player was bought a year ago in a pre-order from Audeos store in Poland. I will contact them to estimate the cost of repair.

edit:
I think I've figured out what's causing the music to pause: it's a gym player carried in a pocket, where it's quite damp (I sweat a little). I think the moisture is causing some kind of short circuit inside and that's why the music pauses. I will check it put on a plastic clip and worn not in a pocket.

Ok. I understand that the requests I posted in my earlier post and Requests thread are overwhelming and just too much info. So if Shanling only has the time, dedication or desire to address just one issue, and only a simple issue, can it be at least the following:

PLEASE just make a simple and easy modification to the firmware allowing for the player to see .m4b files which play just fine when renamed to .m4a!

Even though I have talked about all of the other issues and preferences, if you only address one, I'd prefer it to be this because it has been very annoying and time consuming for me to make new copies of .m4b audiobooks and change their extension to .m4a so that the player will see them and successfully play them.
I don't want to change the original audiobook files in any way just for this player and that is why I do not just simply change their extension, but instead make copies of them and change the extension of the copy which obviously takes up my time and more space on the card. Then I have to remember to delete the file after listening. As you can see it's quite tedious and I feel unnecessary as the player is obviously capable of playing .m4b audiobooks. I've listened to dozens of them already.
Thank you! :D

A question about the DAC use in Windows and DXD.
I installed the USB driver for Windows 10 and the device appears correctly as "Shanling Audio Device" in Device Manager, media players and elsewhere. Driver info confirms the correct Shanling driver. Most files play just fine in the PC media player but for 352.8kHz DXD files I get an error in the player and have to use a downsampler set to 192kHz.
Can someone answer why 352800 / 352.8kHz (DXD) does not appear in the Advanced tab of Sound settings at Control Panel? I see 44100, 48000, 88200, 96000, 176400 and 19200 Hz for 24bit and 32bit but nothing higher.
M0 Pro specs indicate "Decoding: 384kHz/32bit". But maybe that is for files on the device and not through USB. Thanks for any input.

I have a simpler request: Slow down the scrolling :L3000:
The issue is that the player simply does not recognize/see the .m4b extension and is not due to my scrolling speed.
Besides, I'm inside folders that only have 2 or 3 items where scrolling is not even an option.
And when I put the microSD card in my computer and rename the .m4b file to .m4a the player then sees it just fine and the file plays ok. So that right there proves that it's not my scrolling speed.
So this request would be an easy firmware adjustment. I know there are many people who don't even care about this option but I'm sure there are still a good amount who would benefit from it. There are enough audiobook listeners out there and a majority of audiobooks are .m4b, not .m4a. Otherwise .mp3 but that was for older releases.

My wheel has been flimsy lately, will shanling provide replacement parts?
I'm having the same issue and half of the time the volume adjustment is unresponsive.😢
I have to slightly tilt the wheel inward as I turn in order to make better contact inside the potentiometer. Even before I started the tilt technique I noticed that there is just too much side-to-side play in the wheel. As if it feels like it's going to break off soon. But the push button action is very good. Strong and with a nice positive click.
As much as I really like this player I think that this wheel is the lower quality part of it and I'm suspecting will fail in regards to volume adjustment for a lot more people as they use the player more. By the way, my player is new and has not seen a lot of use.
Considering the most likely fate of this wheel for possibly several users it would be nice to at least see someone at YouTube do a replacement with a different wheel button or even a similar one if an aftermarket one can not be added.
Maybe if Shanling releases another version of this player, for example the M0 Ultra, they will implement a better quality wheel button. The Sansa Clip and smartphones have up/down buttons which work of course and I'd take those but a wheel is nice too.
I talk more about this in the Volume Adjustment section of my M0 Pro thread https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sha...any-enhancements-of-this-great-player.973513/

Update: I just discovered that all along during the complaint mentioned above the wheel could actually be pulled out of the player! Because that is obviously not a typical direction I of course never tried that. But right now while trying to diagnose the issue I pushed the wheel inward and then lightly outward. I noticed more movement until the wheel could be pulled fully outward! Looking at the inner shaft of the wheel it is difficult to determine if the shaft broke or the wheel itself is designed as a separate unit. I decided to put a small dab of superglue on the end of the shaft so that the wheel does not eventually fall out over time and get lost! I will say again that even though I greatly like this player overall it really needs a better quality volume wheel!

Sometimes when I turn my wheel, it slightly tilts and gets stuck in what is a depressed position, so the player will switch off after a couple of seconds. I know it now and make sure to check if it is alright after changing the volume, but still annoying.

We have been using such designs for many years and they have been improved over time. For M0 pro, we are satisfied with its longevity compared to the previous M0.

If your M0 Pro is new, please reach out to your seller for warranty.

We reported your M4b issue to our software team.

That sounds a lot like a bookmarking option that has been requested multiple times before.

It is a shame this is not possible, it would make the player much more useful, both for music and other forms of audio like podcasts/audiobooks.
