http://www.cyberport.de has got some figures
i'm note sure if cyberport is a reliable source though, maybe one of the german posters could chip in here?

HD518: € 119,90 http://www.cyberport.de/tv-audio/kopfhoerer/ohr-umschlie-szlig-end/B605-29J/sennheiser-hd-518.html
HD558: € 179,90 http://www.cyberport.de/tv-audio/kopfhoerer/ohr-umschlie-szlig-end/B605-29K/sennheiser-hd-558.html
HD598: € 229,90 http://www.cyberport.de/tv-audio/kopfhoerer/ohr-umschlie-szlig-end/B605-29S/sennheiser-hd-598.html

I'm also curious about this:

doesn't it look like the cable is detachable without disassembling them?
it kinda looks like you have to twist it

Way too expensive. You get (almost) a K701 or DT880 for the price tag of the HD598. They were good, but not that good.

at first the hd555s were around $170 too so I don't think it will be long before the prices will come down to the 100 dollar level for the 558s. I will be buying a pair when that happens :D

Qualitywize, I'd put it into direct competition with the K601, K271, DT250 or so...but I must give in that the overall recipe of the HD5*8 is better balanced than those contenders. The AKGs lack a bit oooomph and the DT250 a bit refinement in comparison.

Damn, those things seem to be pretty expensive.  Maybe they'll come down in price by a fair amount eventually, but I think that I'll just stick with buying AD700s.  Still, if the new Sennheisers would better than the former, unamped, then they could still have a chance in my eyes.

That's just the MRSP. Since the HD5x8 series is intended to replace the HD5x5 series I expect the price tags to be down to the current level relatively quick. I mean if you really wished to, you could buy a 595 for nearly 240€...

I appreciate that very much, thank you.  Cheers!

The new headphones are available for order from retailers since last Friday. So basically they are already available, with availability only limited by the speed of the distribution network. They weren't able to tell me about the US pricing, though... :frowning2:

If the HD598 is anywhere within the $350 range, I'll try my best to pick one up. Now, which retailer should I bug to make them order these headphones so I can buy them? ^^ And hopefully USD pricing is better than the Euro.

If anyone finds any retailers, could you please link it here for us? Thanks!

Here is one I found, never heard of it, however, but I haven't heard of much either..

Thanks for the updated info.  I'll keep my eye out in the next few weeks to see when they are available to order from retailers in the US.

$350 range huh? you could buy a HD650 if you know where to look and then some, which would more likely sound better, but i guess some would get the HD598 for looks and having a newer e-penis.

I hate posting so soon after my last, but this really upsets me.  What is this, 1998?  When is sennheiser going to invest in some new tech and put something NEW and innovative out that isn't an identical rip off model of dang near everything in the past 15 years sennheiser put out in full size

the lowest model has the same frequency range as the HD485 rofl >at 50ohms?  oh my goodness that could be a blessing in disguise or not, because the Hd485 used is 40$ mint, and much easier to drive...but its more like $50 us i think?

meh, could be good could be bad, but im still not happy with them still using tech from 15 years ago on a brand new set

The HD598 is definitely a step up from the 595 which I couldn't stand for longer term listening.
Balanced sounding and slightly on the warm side but not really relaxed or boring. Still I can hear the "Sennheiser" in it, but it's OK I guess since it is a Senn.
But it's far from being the overly warm and "muddy" sound Sennheiser used to have. Even the bass is punchy...for a Senn.

More later.
