Sennheiser's new HD598 & HD558 to be announced at the IFA2010
Sep 2, 2010 at 10:55 AM Post #46 of 151
ill tell you what, my cat isnt very happy about their design and im willing to bet these were actually failed tests during the HD555/595 making process YEARS ago that only now are being surfaced and branded NEW

Ill bet cha they don't offer anything new and wont be worth the price.  They didn't even try to improve the design, so that leads me to believe they also didn't try to improve the sound either.

Well, then I guess it's a win because the cable is detachable. It's attached with a bayonet socket.

yeah if its like HD555s then it certainly is detachable, I would know as I have upgraded mine without any soldering

agree

No, it's actually a 2,5mm jack with a locked bayonet socket. I hope to be able to take some pictures at the IFA tomorrow, if it isn't too busy.

No? No what? It is detachable after you open the can. I'm talking about HD555

I think m00kh00h is saying that the HD5X8 has a different connector than the HD5x5 series, instead of the pin connectors (as in HD5x5) there is a 4 pole 2.5mm jack to hook into the body of the headphone using a bayonet socket to lock the cable in.

Exactly.

The "no" refers to the

part of your post because it's not like the HD555s.

Should have quoted it better, sorry.

you all misunderstood what i was trying to say.  I like the detachable....thats why I posted "no detachable = win"
i guess it could have been taken either way as if i thought it didn't have one, as well as that i simply liked the idea of it having that feature.

Well, I for one love the looks of these.  When I first heard Senn had a new release, I thought for sure it would
be a scaled down HD800...it's a matter of time when they do something there....speaking of colors...love to see a black
HD800!

Back on topic though...my HD555 has it's place....light, cheap, acceptable sound without the guilt = willing to let others
use them....like the detachable cable and they look very comfortable.

Love the white/ivory/bone.  Sennheiser just seems to keep coming out with endless models for all economic segments.  There
headphone line is staggering.

I'm curious about the build quality of those HD558s. Hopefully it's better than their predecessor's, otherwise I'll be buying AKG K240s.

looks it it's the same driver in both cans just like 555/595 with the piece of foam in the 555
