Between Vali 2 and Valhalla 2, I would go for Valhalla because the HD6XX would really benefit from the extra power. According to Schiit website, Valhalla also works well with high efficiency planar (like the PM3): http://schiit.com/products/valhalla-2

My landed cost would be a MINIMUM of $500.00 and likely much closer to $600.00 with conversion, shipping and taxes. Too pricey for me.

Would that be a good fit for both?

The Vali 2 is a hybrid amp. It would be good for most headphones. The Valhalla is an OTL amp while it will drive most headphones it does its best with high impedance cans like the HD600 and HD650.

If you own or plan to own a variety of headphones I would recommend the hybrid Vali 2 or its big brother the Lyr 2...

I will have to do lots of research in the coming months. How about Oppo or Fiio products?

For a portable the HA-2 is nice. My first rig was a Fiio E09k/E17 and while I have since moved up the food chain I still have them.

Of course they are both solid state amps.

Has anybody tried the iFi ICAN SE amp with these phones? Seems to have lots of power, be fairly neutral (without toys engaged) and the price is not horrible.

Thanks!

I tried the 600 amped, along with the PM3'S, LCD-2's and HE400'S. In this session, the HD600 did not stand out to me. Of course I only listened for about 10 minutes.

I actually think that the HD600 and HD650 don't ever "stand out" and that's what I actually love about them. They are understated and do everything well, but don't feel super details or huge bass. I will also say that next the the LCD-2s in particular they can feel well, just whelmed. I think that the LCD-2s can do most things the HD600/650 do better (aside from comfort). But you have to pay $700 instead of $200. The HD650s are my kickback and relax and just listen to music without caring headphones. They are like my favorite leather reading chair in the study that just feels wonderful to sit in.

Totally agree. Plus, with $200 (6xx) price tag, you can never expect how good they can be with different setup and mod. It deserves several hours of daily listening; just chill and relax. That's pretty much what I do everyday this summer :dt880smile:
