When they drop to 200$ i could not resist, ordered one with a gustard to drive them...
Currently I am listening to HD598C'S, with some ATH-M50X and B&W P5's (my portables) tossed in. Straight out of ipod classic and Sony NWZ A17 unamped. Been testing higher up the food chain recently and I am in love with the PM3'S and fond of the SR325E. Two opposite ends of the spectrum to my ears.Using which amp, and what headphones do you usually listen to?
I tried the 600 amped, along with the PM3'S, LCD-2's and HE400'S. In this session, the HD600 did not stand out to me. Of course I only listened for about 10 minutes. If you don't like good headphones, Sennheiser isn't for you.
I'm incapable of trusting someone who doesn't like the HD600 at least a lot.

Of my three headphones I prefer the sound of the HD598C'S. Thanks to Black Friday, they are also my cheapest. Because of that, the large reputation of the 650's and the great price I decided to jump in. Of course they need an amp, but I think I will try buying a 10 foot cable and run them out of my Yamaha receiver, to start.

I didn't care for the Hifiman, was nonplussed by the 600, and was impressed by the LCD-2 after an amp and (balanced) cable change.Interesting. Of the three you mentioned, I've tried the PM3s, which I did not like at all. LCD-2 is a good headphone but clearly colored. HE400s, never tried. Though the HE400i is nice.

Well, that's disappointing...A receiver isn't gonna be near enough what you need for these...
lol. Ok, I can totally see that. I own the LCD-2, and it does outclass the HD600 by a good stretch.
Which amp was used during that session? Among those headphones, the HD600 requires much more power than the others (not even close). And the LCD-2 is much more expensive than the others. Basically you were listening to 3 categories: HD600 (high impedance dynamic), PM-3/HE400 (lower end planar), LCD-2 (high end planar).I tried the 600 amped, along with the PM3'S, LCD-2's and HE400'S.

I never saw the need for amps, up to this point. I must admit that the PM3'S did improve with an amp, so it is likely an inevitable purchase.
Any recommendations for an amp that would work with the HD6XX AND the PM3'S?

Would that be a good fit for both? For a reasonably priced tube amp look at the Schiit Vali 2 or for a little more money the Valhalla 2...
He had two amps, but I really wasn't paying much attention to them. One was an Asgard, I think.Which amp was used during that session?
