Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

Anyway, I saw someone a while back say the M9XX are trash for the HD650/6XX, is that actually true or was that some hyperbole tossed around because people were in the midst of a heated solid state/tube argument?  I like these headphones but if the M9XX is actually a bad pairing I might drop it in favor of something else (though I really do enjoy the convenience of DAC/AMP combo and digital display).

Yes, I've heard that the synergy of HD650 with M9XX was meh, it was better with the iFi Micro iDSD.

So I know the Fulla 2 was said to be decent at driving these cans.

Has anyone tested the Schiit stack - Modi 2 + Magni 2?

Or even just the Magni 2?

Deciding if I'm getting the Fulla 2 or just the Magni 2 Uber to add a Modi 2 onto later.

The former would be burning $99 if I decide to get the stack later.

Anyways I think we are getting off track on this thread.

SO about the 6XX's

I see the 650 vs 800's. but no one has done a 650 vs 800S'

Anyone?

I did it 2 pages back. HD800 S (I like to call it HD800 Schwarz, means black in German).

Get the Fulla 2 now and add a Magni 2 Uber later (or any other amp you want) using the Fulla 2 as just a DAC. Not much sense in getting a regular Modi 2 for the same price as the Fulla 2

They just showed up serial number  03073.

Mine just showed up as well - serial 03xxx also.  I was really hoping I was first 500 since I was sitting in wait for the sale to start but was trampled by the traffic the site faced.  Oh well - still happy to have them.

Mine is serial number 1812, War of 1812 I guess?

I was kind of hoping the 6xx would be my endgame headphones, but I am getting the sense the R5Bi's spoiled me too much for the past 3 weeks. Now I'm starting to get curious about the HD800, this is how it starts I guess...

If you have a proper desktop amp, HD650 definitely. Usb powered amps won't drive HD650 properly. That said, I wouldn't recommend HE400S at all. After comparing it to various headphones, I realized it had very unnatural timbre. HD650 gets timbre so right. It's just not technically as good as HD800 S or HD700.

I bought Fostex TH-610 a few days ago (hasn't arrived from Germany yet). I didn't like TH900 as it was insanely bright but hopefully I'll like this. Otherwise, I'll just get HD800 S somehow even if it's much more expensive, I still can't forget how beautiful it sounded.
I've heard others say a usb amp can't drive the hd650. What would be sufficient wattage to not only drive them but allow for some headroom?

Got my shipment and have already switched earpads and head band padding to the HD650. Didn't realize how much new ear pads/head band can improve the sound. I now have replacement grills and headband in case I need to switch those on the 650. Those parts alone probably cost $200 ..haha

I would rather lose money than do bad business and charge over for anything I purchase. Just a moral thing for me. I really actually give most of my things away except for the things i sold on here. ◕‿◕ Gaining friend is more valuable to me than. making an extra buck

I owe you an apology on what I said about your listing, I was wrong ! You done nothing wrong except just trying to recoup your money, sorry !

I plugged my HD 6XX in both my DACports and they have plenty of volume at least.  They seem to be powered much better than my Dell XPS 13's onboard audio(which is complete garbage as far as my listening sessions are concerned).  Bass is noticeably fuller and punchier.  Highs might be a tad bit crisper.

I also found my HTC One M9 powered these with only 50% volume or so as well.

I honestly thought they would need more power, but I guess they don't.  Of course, I don't have any desktop setups to a/b with, but I think they sound good through my two USB dac/amps and are comparable to some of the stuff I heard when I was at a local meet.

My HD6xx won't be here until Saturday. Unless FedEx does something magical.

I know my DACport slim is rated to drive 600 ohm cans. It puts 450mw into 32 ohms, don't know bout 300 ohms. I also have the Magni 2 which definitely has enough kick. At any rate, they're due in tomorrow so I'll let you know.

Received mine today... a day earlier than scheduled.
Wow, these sound incredible with my Sennheiser HDVD 800 amp.
Better than I remember the HD650 ever sounding in the past. Lol.
Maybe its the amp bringing out their best?
Very happy with this purchase!
