I'll be jumping on this as well. Legendary sound for a legendary price.

I cant wait to see measurements of the HD6XX compared to stock to see if there is anything funk Sennhieser has done.

What are these mods you mentioned?

It's been so long since I looked at my HD650. I have an aftermarket cable and removed the foam. What else is there to do?

Removing the foam off of the back of the driver
dynamat
quarter mod

I didn't find how to modd from this site but do some google searching and you will find it real quick. The whole shebang.
This made life so much more difficult for me as a 598 owner, What do I get for ~$200

HD600 used: ugly paint scheme but very well loved
HD6xx new: great look, but the consensus seems 600 > 650
He-400s used: well regarded as being in the 600s class, worse build quality but it's planar

That is not the consensus... though a lot of people prefer the 600, most with TOTL gear prefer the 650 also the 650 is said to be better technically. Someone I knew preferred the HD600 until they bought the Schiit Jotunheim and heard some of the 650's potential. They now use the 650.

Mass drop has done their research and Senn knows this as well which is why they chose the 650.

Hmm, I just dropped $600 on a Beyer DT1990 which is arguably a better headphone than the HD650 but I'm still tempted to pick up a pair of these just so I can have an HD650 in my collection. These might make a great gift for my dad who I'm trying to get into headphones for his massive CD jazz collection he no longer listens to for some reason.

Hey, that sounds like me! :D

Anyone who bought a Jotunheim or is thinking about buying one owes it to themselves to buy a pair of these. The 650 was already the best value in the headphone world. If you plug it into a Vali 2, it sounds very good. If you plug it into a Jotunheim, it sounds great. If you plug it into an Eddie Current ZDS it sounds incredible.

At ~$350 it was already a deal given how much more expensive most top tier headphones are. At $200 everyone who loves audio owes it to themselves to try these. Even if they don't end up being your daily driver, these are reference cans. With some easy modding they're made even better.

Of course if you already own a 650 you don't need this.

I don't think that is the case. IMO the 650 drivers are more capable than the 600.

Oh balls. I've had 3 sets of HD650 over the years and now I'll probably get the HD6XX. I kept buying the HD650 because I love their sound for laid-back listening at home and then I always sold them again because I didn't use them enough to warrant having such relatively expensive cans just hanging at home, doing nothing most of the time. But $199 new? I can justify that.

I'm in. Will compliment my Q701.

It will eclipse you Q701;p

That's personal preference. I had an HD650 probably about 5 or so years ago. So I know what it sounds like.

Agreed. The Fidelio X2 is my current open can for listening at home (I'm more of a CIEM guy), but the HD6XX will be a nice sidekick/supplement/sidegrade.
