Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

Well that’s silly…. hearing reports the included cable is only 50 plus inches and not the 6’ as originally stated.

"Mine are also barely 4 feet. Measured 53 inches."
"Just got my headphones. The cable I received is probably only 4 feet long... what's up with that massdrop?"
....etc...etc   https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx/talk/608567

My chill out position and intended use for the Hd6XX is laid out the sofa and the required length from my Bryston BHA-1 is just under six feet.
Silly because I just bought a new 650 cable from Sennheiser, $16.99 plus $9 shipping but I just included it with the HD650s I just sold (don't ask

)…I have another converted to balanced but wanted to have the 6XXs plugged in with the 800S, which take up the balanced output.

Well they are advertised for portable use so I guess in that situation the 4’ cable would be fine.

Anyway mine are due to arrive sometime this week…..

Yes 4' would be fine if they had not sold it a 6'.

I already bought the stock HD650 cable knowing the 6' would be too short for my needs.  So 4' is way too short...

Any suggestion where to get cheap cables for our brothers here? Do not want to spend $100 on a freaking cable.
Also, suggestion for balanced cable would be nice too.

4feet is freaking IEM's length. Damn you Sennheiser

Well, how about 6' full weave custom cables with premium interconnects for about $100? Don't go ZY, those are wicked cheaply made. Or I can also do just basic cabling no frills for cheaper, still solid just nothing special to look at.

Voxata made me a 6' cable recently, it is quite gorgeous. It is a brighter blue in real life... but Voxata said I can send it back to get a darker blue to match the HD6xx... so we will see, not sure if I want to do that or not yet, but yeah it is a lovely cable. it has Cardas Solder and Neutrik gold interconnects

That cable doesn't look sketch at all, haha

I don't know what you mean by "Sketch" but I take it, it wasn't complimentary.

It looks just like the cable that come with the HD6xx, with the exception of the balanced termination and a 10' length. Like I said, I'll be testing it to see if I need something better. I'm not into spending excess $ on pretty cables if the performance is no better than a plain/ordinary one.

The same money, canare cable cardas solder the works. Full custom weaves for an extra $30 isn't much more but for someone wanting to cut costs and still get the benefit of a quality cable Venus is a great way to go. That cable looks like a stock cable reterminated with an XLR jack (worth $25 maybe in parts) which is why I said what I did. Many see a benefit from a quality cable, some don't. YMMV.

Just to confirm for those of you wondering about the cable length. I received mine yesterday and yes the cable is definitely not 6 feet, looks closer to 4. It is short. Doesn't bother me personally, except that if they advertised a 6 foot cable, it should be a 6 foot cable.

I've heard good things about cables from here, from multiple sources in multiple forums:

Looks nice. If I had seen that one first, I probably would have gotten that one instead.

Don't spend money on these cables. $70 is ridiculous for any cable.

It is dead simple to solder on your xlr cables, and the connector is only a couple of bucks.

An honest price for a balanced cable for these headphones would be about $20 bucks. Anything above that is a ripoff.

I'm happy with the length of my cable.

I always found the long cables annoyong, due to it reaching the floor, getting tangled in stuff potentially being run over with my chair etc.

My amp is on my desk, and I only use the headphones while seated at my desk. I probably don't need more than 3ft, but I'd go with 4 just to be safe. Anything longer than that would be an annoyance.

Nice thought but not everyone has even basic DIY skills.

And no $70.00 is not an ridiculous amount for a good balanced cable.
