I've decided I'm crazy enough to drop around $50,000 on headphones. I trust head-fi as the best audiophile community out there, so I'll probably buy whichever of the two gets the most recommendations. I appreciate any input, especially if you've had a chance to listen to them. Thanks!

I wouldn't buy either without listening to both first and honestly asking if they sounded $50,000 better to me than gear I already had.

I understand what you mean. But, to me, having the best headphones out there is worth $50,000, even if they're only marginally better than cheaper headphones. I listen to music enough for it to be worth it to me... To know it's the best. It'll stop those nagging "upgrade thoughts" I always have and allow me to focus on the music.

I would without a doubt get the Sennheiser.
HiFiMan will release a Shangri-La v2 in three months for only $80,000

this thread should be in the high-end forum. that said, if you're looking for informed opinions and advice, then I doubt that you will find many folks who have first hand experience with both over there either.

That made me laugh. You bring up a legitimate point too! Referring to their HIFIMAN HE1000 v2?

Like others have said you need to listen to them. You don’t wanna drop money like that because of what someone else thought of them. They could have a completely different opinion on how something should Sound or a preference for a sound signature you don’t find ideal.

Price doesn't dictate what is the best headphones. A $50,000 headphones might sound like crap to some, while a $1000 might sound better to them. I'd suggest trying them first with other headphones within the sane price range before committing to it without thinking that SQ = $$$ > $$ > $

Damn, I would at least start out with STAX SR-009(~ $6k for headphones and amp) before dropping the bigger money(SR-009 is big money already). I always look up to SR-009 as my destiny. LOL.

Curious if the Hifiman can surpass the SR-009.

    Orpheus 2!
PS: Is that even a question?

PS2: KGSSHV CARBON DHT, METRUM ADAGIO, STAX SR-007 MK1 (70XXX) for another glorious sounding system :)
